700r4 question
Anyone know if a 700r4 from a 89 suburban would be a direct swap into a 85 k10?

I thought that the torque converter lock up might be different from 85 to 89.

I prefer to use the lockup torque converter on a toggle switch anyways otherwise they lock up at the wrong time in my experience. I use a brake switch though so that it will un-lock when you hit the brakes.... Had a bad situation during a panic stock where the converter was manually locked and the engine stalled causing me to loose the power brakes and steering.... Almost caused an accident.

That combination is highly sought.
Early on, the 700R4 was most often combined with the NP208. However, the NP241 is an updated version of the NP208, and it only came with a mechanical speedometer for one year. 1989, in the suburbans and blazers. Every year after, the 700R4 and NP241 combo had an electronic speedo. The NP241 is generally considered to be a better option than the NP208 because you can eliminate the slip-yoke. But if you have an early vehicle and need a mechanical speedo, you have to search the junkyards for a 1989 suburban or blazer, because that was the only year. Ask me how I know...
