Who has a BBC in their truck?
The 350 in my 84 I bought is pretty much wore out. Thought about a rebuild or even a 383 but can't spend that kind of money right now. I have a .030 over rebuilt 454 short block on my stand, along with a set of reworked 781 heads with 2.19, 1.88 SS valves and springs to match the Lunati hyd flat tappet cam I have. Engine has stock pistons, cam is a 550 lift street cam. I was planning on putting it in my 72 chevelle, but looks like the 434 sb will stay in it for now. Truck has 3.08's with a 700R, I would of thought it'd had at least 3.42's. Wish I hadn't bought the new 600 Holley now. The only other spare carb I have is a 830DP Holley. Also, I have a new set of headman 1 7/8 headers for my chevelle, anyone ever tried a chevelle header on a truck?

Re: Who has a BBC in their truck?
chevelle/camaro headers (early 70's) are all I run, never had an issue 2 or 4wd.

I have Hooker Super Comps 2455 for a Chevelle, 2" primaries / 3.5" collector, no issues on the passenger side, had to dimple a couple spots on the drivers side to clear the motor mount.

Re: Who has a BBC in their truck?
I put some Headman "Elite ultra duty" thick flange headers on my 76 1 ton with a 454. Worked great, still work great.

Do chevelle/camaro headers work with column shift linkage?

Re: Who has a BBC in their truck?
I had early chevelle ones on the 84 I built. Truck was a stick, and only issue I ran into was the hydro setup. I had to shim the slave out cause it hit a primary. I hate small blocks anymore. Once you drive a big block, you never want to go back!!!! The motor was nothing special, very similar to urs, stockish cam, same heads but stock valves. Truck had 35s, 4-speed, and 4.10s. It was like a sports car, just not the handling lol. I wouldn't recommend a 700, less you built it up. One of the many past trucks I've owned had a stock TBI454, 3.42s and 35s, it would lite the tires up coming out of a corner. Tried that with similar small blocks, and doesn't even come close. My current truck has a 200k 350, and it's killing me. I can't wait to put the 8.1 in!!!!

Re: Who has a BBC in their truck?
Well, it looks like the 454 is going in mine. Been doing some body work and got some primer on it today. Had to pull it out to get some customers cars in, so I took it up the road. It is one sick puppy. I got a guy that does all my automatic trans rebuilds, He said he could do the 700 for $650. Never had 1 problem from any of his transmissions, but he has done them all his life. I'm kinda considering a beefed 350 turbo though. Whats the adapter cost so I can keep my current driveshafts? Found some on ebay but don't know if they're the right ones. The BB will be putting out a lot of torque and around 425 to 450 HP, so that 700 is going to be tested pretty good, plus the 3.08 gears and 11.50's thats on it, I won't take advantage of the OD around here.

Also which 350, short or 9 inch tail housing. I got to find a core. Got a rebuilt 400 for my 40 chev coupe project. Wish it would fit.

Re: Who has a BBC in their truck?
I've had 2 700r4 454 trucks, one I was daily driving and plowing snow with.40 mile commute and plowed 4 winters before I smoked it but it was my fault for not setting the tv cable when I swapped out the Holley 900 injectsystem for a carb. The other was a 73 also with a warmed over 454/700/205. I loved that setup with the 410 rear. Just my opinion i'd build the 700.
