LS Harness and AC questions/input

Ok - have a read a bunch of threads similar to below. But have a few questions or idea inputs.

Truck is a 57 Panel. LS Swap and aftermarket AC
I will be doing a new chassis harness as well.

1) Does anyone make a longer standalone EFI harness to mount say under/behind seat ? Was looking at bp-automotive or painless currently. Sort of also considering the 7 circuit DIY fuse block kit BP offers and using the factory reworked myself.

2) Was looking at a basic cool/heat system. Something like this - any issues ?

3) Chassis harness think IM going with a rear mount RW harness on this page to free up space in front with AC unit.

4) What are the biggest tips/lessons you have learned from doing this yourself - stuff you wish you had done ahead of time .... or gone with or thought of.

I used a psi harness..when I bought it I was told they could make it longer for mountting behind the seat..I wish I had..I put my ecm behind the dash..never again..from now on its going under or behind the seat

Thanks. My backup option is to mount somewhere near drivers side headlight .... but rather hide it especially in case I do turbos later

Most of the companies will make you a harness to mount pretty much wherever you want, you will just have to give them a measurement and tell them what you are doing.

If your going to run AC ... Do you normally run it off the ECU harness .... Or the chassis harness

Its simpler to just run it off the chassis harness and to use a trinary swithch to provide over/uner pressure protection and controll the fans.

I like the looks of that A/C set up, but I have my doubts about how well that small of a unit will cool a panel truck. If it were a pick up I think it would be fine, but if it were me, I would get the biggest VA unit you can get.

Good point hadn't thought about it like that.
Especially as I live in FL.

Was really thinking just cool air over my face as I travel to work ..... But yeah that's a lot of cargo area to cool to not feel the heat

Would have to do more insulation in roof and panels to help at least ...Hmm

Agreed. I installed the Gen II Compac this summer and it pretty much runs full tilt in an effort to keep the truck cool.

I would contact MCB MAtt here on the board. He hooked me up with a an under dash evap unit and I then purchased my other components (condensor, compressor, fittings, lines - made my own, and controls) piece meal and had pretty much the same money in it as the one you posted.

Thanks - I'll get in contact with VA and see what CFM etc they flow and what they recommend.

Kinda got me thinking if I should put in a false removeable wall also behind seats .... but not sure .......

The Gen IV which is our best performer with around 17,000 BTU’s and our smallest unit the Gen II Mini is around 11,000 BTU’s so I would guess an under dash type unit like the Heritage Series or Mark IV is going to be in the 12,000 BTU range.
The under dash units like the Heritage Series and Mark IV are good performers and provide a high air volume so there should not be a problem using one of them for your panel as long as the truck is insulated well.

Going to have to talk with a few guys with VA installed .........dont need to cool the whole panel .... but obviously as you guys pointed out its going to impact feeling in front.
