53 Chevy 3100 Choke

First let me say hi. I'm new here.

I'm doing some work on a good friends 53, and find myself in need of either a pic, a diagram, or a good description. His choke cable is all bunged up. I need to source a new one, but its unclear to me how this connects to the choke arm. The clamp for the Bowden cable's center wire is intact, but I see nothing to clamp the outer shield to. How is this connected?

He doesn't have the shop manual for this truck, but I have ordered it. Alas, its not here yet - who knows when!

Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.

Re: 53 Chevy 3100 Choke

I wanted to reuse the original choke cable on my project but it was bound as well. I ended up spraying the whole spiral wound sheath with PB blaster.

It took a few days of respraying, but I would attempt to push/pull the knob. Slowly it broke free little by little. Now it works perfectly.

Hope that helps.

Thanks mucho for the replies. That pic is exactly what I was hoping for. And the thought of breaking free the old cable might be of real use.

Re: 53 Chevy 3100 Choke

Every truck trinket vendor should have the correct cable with the correct knob but here is the easy for me link to hunt up.

Those cables get brutalized over the years if they don't rust up. either cut off just outside the firewall or kinked from rough handling.

soak it in PB or WD. then whip it easy across the concrete driveway. water it with PB more, whip it more. I've gotten some really nasty looking ones working again.
