Transmission Conversion

Hello, I need some advise. 1967 Chevy C10, 250 6 Cylinder with 3 speed manual transmission. Going to put in a 383 with a 700r4 automatic transmission. What do I need for a cross member for the transmission? I don't think the current cross member for the 3 speed manual transmission will work, but could be wrong. I want to get this done while I am painting the frame. Thanks.

you can use a turbo 350 cross member but the manual one wont work. i had a 350/350 in my 70 c10 and installed a 700r4 and the stock cross member worked fine, it just needed to be moved and i had to drill some new mounting holes in the frame.

not sure if you can use the 6 cyl motor mounts on the v8 install. good luck on your project!

Re: Transmission Conversion

The current rear engine mount cross member needs to be removed totally.
The V8 will require new engine mount towers and of course, new mounts.
You will need a rear trans cross member, either from a 350/350 truck or aftermarket...

As you realize, its a lot easier to do all this while the cab is off the chassis.
