1963 Front wheel hubs.

I ordered my shop manual but it won't be here until Friday. I took the front brake drums off and the inner wheel bearing and grease seal are still in the drum. I put a large socket and tapped it with hammer but neither came out. Does anyone know if if the bearing and grease seal are pressed in?

Marcus, hey there are you talking about the hub? Not the drum. Typically the outer bearing will come out after you remove the castle nut, pull the hub off of course after you have removed all the brake components. On the inner the seal will have to be pryed off in order to get the bearing out and a new seal will be installed. Its been a while since I have done it, however I believe that is correct. Depending on how long its has been or if its is the original bearings I would replace them with news as well, check the bearing cups/races ensure there is no cracks or scoring in them, again those may have to be replaced as well. Hope this helps

slaminum69 ... Your right I'm talking about the break drum. I took both front brake drums off like you described but the grease seal and the inner bearing are still in the brake drum. Hope that helps explain but your post makes me ask myself does the bearing and seal knock out into the brake drum or does it go out the back side?

The wheel seal and inner bearing come out the back side of the hub. I usually knock them both out at the same time with a long punch, thru the front opening in the hub. But be careful to not mess up the bearings. That is unless you plan to replace them. It sounds as though your drum is still riveted to the hub.

Captainfab.... Thanks for the info I'll punch them out in the morning. I need to take the drums and have them turned tomorrow. Your right the drum is still riveted to the hub. If I have to replace the drums I'll have to grind the rivets out. I read in the FAQ's about grinding them off. Is that the best approach?

Yes, grind the rivets flush and drive the rest out with a punch. It does sometimes help to drill a hole thru the remaining rivet. You may have to do this to get the drums turned.

here's how the flat rate guys do it (and with no harm)

take the nut and outer cone off, thread the nut back on a few turns then snatch the assembly off. the inner cone and seal will remain on the spindle

Got the rivets ground off today and took a punch and got them out of the hub also. Took the drums to get them turned but the were warped and could not be turned. Looks like 2 new drums for the front.... Thank you everyone for the help... many thanks.....
