6.0 water pump
The water pump went out on the 71 last Friday. I have to order a pump today and figure out what to do about the steam line they put in the old one. The bushing is striped and vise grips want grab it enough to turn it. I want to see if there is a easier solution to this than drilling and tapping it again. Give me some idea's of what you have done to simplify this. Also need info on the thermostat. Does it come out of the housing? I tried but it didn't budge!

Re: 6.0 water pump
Thanks that what I was thinking also. I probably go back with the drill and tap. I'd like to see other idea's though.

Re: 6.0 water pump
I always just cut the upper radiator hose and put a coupler in there with a little port off the side for it.

Re: 6.0 water pump
Yeah you dont want the steam port going to a high pressure spot as it is on your old pump, you want it low pressure. I've seen the pump tapped down into the thermostat area or the hose connector will work. The thermostat does come out of the housing.

Re: 6.0 water pump
I got the pump and housing for the thermostat new from O Reilly's and the heater hose connection for the 5/8" line. It will all be here today at noon. I'll pick it up this afternoon after work and try to get it installed. I couldn't get the dang thermostat out so I bought another 160* one housing and all.
