72 K10 LQ4 swap overflow bottle question

Now that I have been driving my 72 for a couple of days I noticed antifreeze coming out of the overflow tube of the stock rad after I park it for a few minutes. Truck runs at 196f per my scanner...do I need an overflow bottle? Truck didn't have one when I bought it. What are you guys using? Pictures if possible thanks!

Re: 72 K10 LQ4 swap overflow bottle question

For what its worth, I don't have one on my lq4. have stock fan clutch (no shroud) and it sits at 90c / 194f solid according to my Dakota Digital gauges. Overflow hose puked a bit after the first coolant fill and running but hasn't in the 3000km or so since.

Re: 72 K10 LQ4 swap overflow bottle question

You dont need an overflow bottle, but without one you cant fill the radiator all the way to the top. This is the reason original radiators have the full level a few inches doen from the top, there needs to be room for expansion when the coolant is warm. If you over fill it, it will just puke out the excess then when it gets to the level it can safely hold it will stop, this will be the full level.

I just converted my wiper washer reservoir to my radiator overflow.

Just don't take it to a Jiffy Lube type place or it'll likely get topped off with washer fluid!

Thumbs up Re: 72 K10 LQ4 swap overflow bottle question

I have always ran a over flow tank on all 3 engines. It's just a good idea.

Where I work they have security guards that check the parking lot regularly. If they see the same vehicle puking anti freeze everyday they will put a sticker on it. After several times they will not let you on site with the vehicle until it's fixed.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
