Re: I want to hear Thunder, what mufflers?
There are a lot of Opinions on Mufflers. I would say that it's a personal thing and it depends on just How Loud you want it. When I drive my trucks I enjoy the sound but I also want to hear my Stereo or carry on a conversation with my passenger. When I put my LS motor in my S10 I was running out of Money so I bought a pair of Turbo Mufflers from Jeg's that only cost $25 a piece. Thinking that I would buy better ones later,That was 30,000 mile ago. I love the sound and get compliments all the time on the Sound. Good Luck in Your Search.

Waiting to hear some feedback on this one too. Also have a GMPP 383 stroker in my 57 and about ready to start on the exhaust.
Hogfarm, what headers are you running? I went with the Doug's long tube, and thinking of stainless w/H pipe into (TBD). Cheers, Jim |

Re: I want to hear Thunder, what mufflers?
Well I've used Flowmaster 40 series on all my rides, but, if you want to hear your exhaust as you say, you may consider to go to 2 1/2" piping. I've got that on a street rod and it's really noticeable. Keep in mind, this is loud for sure. If you want to have a good sound and able to hear your radio or fellow passengers I'd recommend to run the exhaust to the back end.

Re: I want to hear Thunder, what mufflers?
I thought I was buying magnaflows for mine...turned out they were magflow..not magnaflow...they're stainless 2.5...they were only like 50 bucks a pair on ebay at the time....they have since changed their name to maxflow...they sound great...not terribly loud unless you really stand on it but they will talk to ya

Re: I want to hear Thunder, what mufflers?
I started with a Flowmaster 40 Series two chamber. It droned in the cab just a bit too much for me. I ended up with a Flowmaster 40 Series Delta Flow which is a three chambe muffler. It had an improved in cab drone but didn't sound much different outside the cab. Note my cab has no insulation or carpet which may have helped with the 40 Series. Another note is that I had the exhaust running out the back under the bumper.
Great video by Flowmaster here giving a breakdown of their offerings: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_c...&v=QEBdiW4LbI0 I swear you can watch comparative videos on YouTube all day long and it doesn't seem to do much good, you have to hear them in person to to find the sound and sound level you like. |

Re: I want to hear Thunder, what mufflers?
Just loud and still call the mufflers, a pair of short Cherry bombs out of the barrel of Cherry bombs at a parts house.
Have a rumble and still sound good instead of just loud, a pair of Flowmasters . I don't know what one of my coworkers has on his 2 Something K Chevy 4x4 but it is one of the best sounding trucks I have ever heard and the engine is stone stock. That truck has pipes with authority. Not obnoxiously loud but they have that "I've got the power" sound when he fires it up and heads up the street.

Re: I want to hear Thunder, what mufflers?
Mild 454 with Performer + cam, 2 1/2" duals with a H pipe, Flowmaster Delta 50's and now with full tail pipes. With just turndowns at the mufflers it had a low speed drone in the cab but not loud enough to set off car alarms like my Mopar does...

Re: I want to hear Thunder, what mufflers?
Spintech mufflers get the 9000s they will be rowdy. Spin techs have a sound that’s unique not like the flowmasters that everyone gets

Re: I want to hear Thunder, what mufflers?
I have Thrush turbo mufflers on my LS 6.0. They sound tough and not too piss off the neighbors loud. Reasonably priced also, got them from Advance Auto Parts.

Re: I want to hear Thunder, what mufflers?
I have Dynomax straight-through 17218’s behind my cammed LQ4 on 2-1/2” pipes. They’re 20”s long.
I’ve barely driven it so far. Around the block a couple times and my foot in it only mildly but I think they may be too quiet. I want a verbally low rumble but a snarl if i stand on it. I thought I’d have the opposite problem.

Re: I want to hear Thunder, what mufflers?
Knowing where Hogfarm lives I'd say loud pipes save lives and you just want the guy coming the other way to hear you coming.
I guess you could fab up some fake mufflers and stick them on it. Check this https://www.ebay.com/itm/Gator-Glass...-/301403472342

Straight pipe with two wads of stainless steel wool in each pipe hold it in with a pin through the pipe.

Re: I want to hear Thunder, what mufflers?
Remembering my teenage years I ran a rolled up square of 1/4 inch hardware cloth with a pin. Until the pin gave out and the roll blew out in the middle of town.

Re: I want to hear Thunder, what mufflers?
Count, I have Headers and No cats. I do have a H pipe and the mufflers are as far back as I could get them. The pipe is 2.5 and comes out to each side behind rear wheel. I don't have a sound clip because I'm lucky if I can do anything with this Smart Phone. If My daughter would help me the next time she comes home I might have to have a lesson on videos with my phone.
