NOS grille score

I saw an ad on a FB page for a '69-'70 NOS grille shell....in unopened GM box....
been looking for one for a while....yes it was expensive....
but the value of the Gen1 K/5 Blazers....justifies it (in my mind...hahaha)

I don't have immediate plans for it...this winter I will be pulling the front clip and starting my LS1 swap....
I figured that I would change out the grill shell whenever I put the clip back on....
after that the used one will likely go up for sale.

Re: NOS grille score

Good find ! Most of the aftermarket parts I used were great quality except the grille. The biggest problem is the material is dead soft and is way too thin that even the smallest rock will dent it. I would love an OEM grille, but wouldn't have the balls to use it considering the rarity and cost.

I had that very same thought...it was in an unopened GM box.....the guy I got it from told me that he had it for many years and had been asked a bunch of times to open the box and send pictures....he refused to do it....but when I contacted him about buying it, he did......I suppose he was now seriously ready to sell it. He doubled packaged it and I insured it for $1000.00..(a little more than I paid for it)

I should have it tomorrow....and, like you, I'm a little hesitant to even put it on....thinking of perhaps just storing it away for the future...these old trucks and parts are better than money in the bank...

Re: NOS grille score

If you got it for less than a grand, you did very well !
I'd be on the fence about using it if it was me. A truck that is used occasionally and for shows, then probably, but I put too many miles on mine to even consider it. The aftermarket ones are actually very nice, but why don't they just charge $50 more and make them a bit thicker ?

$900 was what I paid for it...then shipped on my biz account so I can kinda nullify that charge as a deduction..but I'm in it right at 1K.

I saw one or two awhile back on Ebay...priced at $1250.00 + shipping....so I suppose I can say that I'm $250 to the good...(makes me feel better anyway..)

My K/5 is a driver.....but not a daily driver.... but that doesn't matter in the event that it was to get damaged somehow...

When I bought it..I never even considered NOT using it.... but after seeing some of the responses..... this purchase may be end up being a curse rather than a blessing....

Thanks to all...!

Re: NOS grille score

I saw a sight a while back that was selling GM grills. I’ll have to look and see who it was but they were something like $600 or so. The kicker is when I called about it the guy said to steer clear because they are from newer stampings and most of them aren’t as nice as the aftermarket because the dies were wore out when they were making them later on. They were selling an upgraded grill at the time for more money than the standard grills as well.

Re: NOS grille score

So here’s what I found for 69-70. When I was looking it was for my 72. I can’t find the store who had them.
