Brake light upgrades
I have used the search function, but trying to sort through multiple 20 page builds to find what was done to "upgrade" brake lights is really time consuming.
So here's the deal. I live in a college town with LOTS of distracted drivers and lots of rear enders at stop signs and stop lights. I want to do all I can to alert them that I'm stopping. So not only am I looking for pictures of brake light upgrades, but also third brake lights. If there are any that are brighter than the sun, I'd like to see those too. So anyone who has upgraded the brake lights and/or added a third brake light, please post it up. Thanks. |

Re: Brake light upgrades
Here is one on a 1950 3100, We made a cup that welds to the cab and allows access from the back for wiring. Its an LED so its bright. The light was a 48 to 54 chevy car. The lowers are also LED so they are bright as well.

Re: Brake light upgrades
I wanted as bright a rear light as I can find and still be stylish. These aren't your usual taillights, but it is what I'm using and they are bright
Also, the 3rd brake light i'm running is from a company Called Southern Rods. The part number to the light is HR13612-A Here's the address to the light https://www.southernrods.com/headlig...1.58.35-PM.png

Re: Brake light upgrades
I think that the big problem that the majority of us have on the brake light thing on 47/59 trucks is that the only lights that look right on these trucks are smaller size lights. Also they only look proper when they are mounted in the stock position or mounted low.
I've always liked something similar to what Kevin Mac showed in post 7 I'd want more lens and less ring showing though pus some serious LED light in it. I've bought a couple of Led third brake light bars that fit in the back window of trucks but haven't tried one out yet. I was planning on putting one in my 71 and in the 48.

Re: Brake light upgrades
Here is my solution. I believe they are 1948 Chevy car taillights. I couldn't decide whether I wanted chrome or black bezels...that's why they are two different colors. I painted the insides with silver paint and put some LED bulbs in and it's plenty bright. Probably not as bright as the sun though...

Re: Brake light upgrades
AD tail lights with glass lenses are brighter than plastic as I discovered when I replaced mine.

Re: Brake light upgrades
I have LED tailights [no 3rd] that are pretty bright, but honestly, when someone is staring at their phone while driving or similar I don't think any amount of tailights is going to help.
