1953 Stock Tank EFI Fuel Pump
I have a 1953 3100, S10 frame with a 5.3l with the stock in-cab fuel tank and would like to install a in-tank fuel pump that meets the need of the early (return style) 5.3l. I searched and didn't find what I was looking for - are there and kits anyone know of for a conversion?
I could do an external pump, but the potential noise and the need to install a return line could be avoided. Thoughts? Links to previous forums I missed in my search?

Re: 1953 Stock Tank EFI Fuel Pump
not sure if there's anything that would work without a lot of fab work and rigging....im sure it can and has been done though...I'm running external walbro 255 pump and its not loud..if you mount it under the cab I doubt you'll ever hear it unless you have really quite mufflers...adding a return line to your sender would be fairly simple....but my 2cents would be advise you to ditch that incab tank..and go with a boyds or similar style tank...
I've seen several threads where people have added intank pumps. ..maybe they'll chime in

Re: 1953 Stock Tank EFI Fuel Pump
I have seriously considered an aftermarket tank, but with how I have everything I’m not sure where I will have space. I don’t want it in the bed, so I thought since I have one I would use the cab tank to get it up and running and relocate tank later.
That’s good to know those Walbro pumps are quiet, that was one I had looked at. Just considering different options.

you'll get a lot of opinions on what quite is...the only time I can hear mine is when I turn the key on before cranking...once engine is running its a non issue for noise...the boyd tank mounts between the frame rails behind the rear axle....you can getem with the intank pump....

Re: 1953 Stock Tank EFI Fuel Pump
An in tank pump inside your cab will be way louder than an external pump mounted on the frame. I have a stock tank and the Walbro 255 and just like Mongo said you can't hear it.
I just had 2 bungs welded into a stock tank. One for fuel and the other for return. You may be able to use the stock pickup tube for a return but I was concerned about it possibly messing with my gas gauge. |

Re: 1953 Stock Tank EFI Fuel Pump
I know the under bed mount tank like what was used on the 47/48’s is available again.
There are all kinds of evil fuel pump conversion kits out there. Might be something to look in to. |

Re: 1953 Stock Tank EFI Fuel Pump
I will stick with my original external pump, and if I can fit it I'll look into a between frame tank later on.
Thanks for all the advice.
