Figuring out production # on VIN?

Hey guys,

Anyone know how to read the whole # on the vin?
Trying to see what # my 1970 2 wd Blazer was in the line.

The vin is CE180S171391

I know C- 2wd
E -v-8
1- 1/2 ton
8- Blazer
S- St' Louis
1 - 1970

But wondering what the actual # it was in the run?
Left with
# 71391.

Yeah - you really can't do that.

The last five digits are assigned sequentially but because of other considerations (nameplate, shuffling of vehicles in cab shop, paint and trim) the VIN does not reflect the sequence of vehicles built down the final line.

The General Assembly sequence number would be what you are looking for but is not recorded for posterity (unless you have the actual build sheet or find grease pencil markings that indicate the GA sequence number).

Hi Keith.

Thanks for the info. This blazer was a complete restore. So frame was cleaned and painted. All the body stripped and painted. Not even the build option sheet in the glove box. It has changed a couple hands before I bought it.

Do those last 5 digits tell anything?

Not really.

They distinguish your truck as unique out of all the St Louis builds, but even then they don't cover the general population.

Every final assembly location built a #71391 during the 1970 model year so you need the VIN prefix (specifically the assembly plant code in the VIN) to make the VIN unique to your vehicle.
