Swapping a '76 GMC Grill into a 1979 GMC

I know these grill swap questions have been asked a thousand times, so here's 1001. I would like to know if a 1976 GMC is a direct swap for a 1979 GMC? The truck does NOT have an inside hood release, it is the regular external manual hood release. Has anyone done this swap? Any pointers or picture would be appreciated.

Thanks
