shifter problems

my blazer originally had a column shifter, but the previous owner put a kit in the floor. The bracket that is bolted onto the transmission just broke where it bolts into the tranny. I purchased a new kit, but being a first time 4x4 owner did not know there was a difference between 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive kits. It turns out they had a 2 wheel drive kit as well and had to do some modifications on it to make it fit. I've had to do it as well on the new kit, but the guts of the shifter is different than the one I purchased. It is curved so that it comes in the hole thru the floor, and the new is straight, so I would have to cut more floor out. The old curved doesn't seem to be working right and the rods going from the legs to the tranny keep on hitting my exhaust, anyway. Do they make a floor shifter kit for 4x4's? Any help on the subject would be greatly appreciated.

If you're talking about the transmission, nothing's better than the B&M quicksilver. I had a column shifter an installed the Quicksilver and love it. Easy installation, good instructions, and universal. I put it next to the t-case shifter and got matching knobs.

RE: Shifter

B&M Quicksilver is for automatic isn't it? Mines a 3-speed standard. Another problem was with the shifter hitting the floor going into first, so it looks like I'm just gonna have to cut the hole bigger.

OH, you had 3 on the tree. Sorry. Look into the B&M shrt throw shifters, though you will have to bend over to reach it.

Southern, the previous owner moved my 3 down to the floor and used some standard 3-speed truck shifter and it had all kinds of problems so I ordered the Hurst Mastershift 3 speed from Summit. It was a bit more expensive, but worth every penny, I haven't had a problem with it at all and the position it sits in is perfect. Make sure you order the 4x4 installation kit with it. Here's the catalog from Hurst http://mrgasket.com/pdf/hurst2001manual.pdf the Shifter is 366 6901 and the mounting kit is 367 0025, if you search on Summit search for HUU-3666901 and HUU-3670025. Hopefully they have them in stock it took a month or two to get the mounting kit for mine.

Hope that helps,
Jed

Much obliged, I've already been in contact with summit and they gave me those exact same order numbers. It sounds like you're pretty happy with yours, the setup they had on mine was half a$$. Did the master shifter install pretty easy? Thanks for the reassurance from Summit

No problem, it was pretty easy to install, just bolts on right to the transmission. I had to do some cutting in the body due to a different throw then the previous shifter, but that was about it. Enjoy, let me know if you have any issues.
