1966 C10 Tailgate repros, any recommendations?

I have a tailgate that I am thinking to stop repairs on and just buy a reproduced one but I do not know of the different sellers quality and fit. Anyone ever ordered from Classic Parts?

I was looking at this one

Here is a link to the thread I started on the repairs for the one I have now,

Thanks Dean and RocknRod, the MarK from what Ive seen only sells the smaller Chevrolet script and not the ones with the taller letters like I have. Ive not heard of the Truck Shop in Orange, CA. The price looks pretty good at $355. Ill have to check on the shipping on Monday and see how much from CA to GA that will be.

The truck shop also has a store in Concord,NC. I dont know if shipping would be any cheaper.

The truck shop shipping sucks. It just cost to much. I usually buy from them at the swap meets. Get it for less when paying cash. I would check their schedule and see if they will be near you http://www.truckandcarshop.com/swap_meet.htm

Re: 1966 C10 Tailgate repros, any recommendations?

I don't think the various parts retailers each manufacture their own parts. I imagine all of the reproduction tailgates are made by one, or possible two, suppliers. In other words, I'd be surprised if the tailgate sold at Classic is different from that sold by MarK, or LMC, or The Truck Shop, etc

Re: 1966 C10 Tailgate repros, any recommendations?

Mar-K makes all their parts in Oklahoma, USA which is why I prefer to buy from them. That and the fact that their stuff actually is of proper gauge and everything fits like it should. Unfortunately, the wide box tail gates are stamped with the step side script which is smaller than the wide box script. Or you can buy it plain.
I replaced all my short step side box metal with Mar-K metal and it all fit like a glove. All the fender holes were perfect and the purchasing options for the side panels was very generous. I bought my tail gate with the hidden latches and hinges and the front panel with the embossed bowtie. Looks very sharp after 4 years and still works like new.
All the other repopped sheet metal for these trucks is made in China and you may or may not be very pleased with your purchase.

They'd have to "show" that press they use for the tailgates and fenders for me to believe that. Just sayin.

I vaguely recall running into this issue awhile back when considering where to acquire a totally straight tailgate. I can't imagine why they would do this. I ended up finding a nice O.E. gate anyway, but why on earth ....

Gaps between tailgate and bed or in the tailgate itself?

That is Awesome!!!!!

Im confused though, how did you get the tall fleetside lettering?
I sent an email to MarK and got this reply...

The fleetside tailgates that we manufacture do not have the original fleetside lettering. Ours will have the stepside lettering.

Thank you,
Amy Workman

Re: 1966 C10 Tailgate repros, any recommendations?

I originally cut out the center section to do a custom panel with "PONTIAC" embossed, but my source for the lettering work passed away before he got to it. That left me with filling the opening by welding in one from a damaged fleetside tailgate.

In the Truck Shop catalog it shows a different "lettering" pic for fleetside and stepside -
