Sender that worked with original temp gauge

Just sharing a success for me. I installed Classic Instruments SN12MM Water Temperature Sender. Screwed it into the 12 mm hole in the back of the passenger cylinder head of my swapped 4.8 LS. Hooked the one original temp sender wire up. At temp (187 deg) the needle is in the center of the gauge range. My application is odd as it's a 73 P10 stepvan and the gauge cluster is same as a 62-65 nova but the ohm value probably works with many original gages.

Re: Sender that worked with original temp gauge

Yeah glad you mentioned this. I was thinking about using the same hole in the passenger
head as well for a mechanical temp gauge and was wondering if anyone else has done the same. Thanks

Re: Sender that worked with original temp gauge

For LS swaps where the PCM still needs input but have stock temp gauge, you can use the OEM 1998 "F" body temp sensor that is 3 wire. RockAuto sells them for $19.95 plus ride to your door. The sender provides 2 wires (YEL=5v, BRN=Grnd, DRK GRN to cluster. Operates between 55 ohms that equals 260 degrees F, 360 ohms equals 160 degrees F. It fit OEM "LS" head thread and just add one wire, the DRK GRN for temp gauge in dash for either OEM or electronic gauges unless manufacture suggest otherwise for their dash. Connector is pretty standard found all around the bone yard car, trucks and vans. Also online for new. It is easier that drilling a new hole and tapping it or going to passengers side. Use that one year on both Cameros and Firebirds. I use GM teflon sealant P/N 12346004 that works while still providing sensor ground to engine. I am down to the last two tubes, almost empty...note, order more.
