1987 454 rv engine

Have the possibility of buy a 1987 Winnie chieftain with a 454 engine 67000 miles for under 500. Can be driven to my property but is it worth messing with? Dually rear end auto tranny. Anything odd on those engines? Would the radiator be the same as a pickup?

Just trying to think it through. Might be a pain getting rid of the leftovers.

It's easily worth the $500.00.
The engine is low horse,high torque with the rv cam.I'm assuming it's carbed too.New heads and intake will wake it up!The trans will be the turbo 400 and probably has the drum brake on it's tailshaft.
Radiator is rv only!
Should have hydroboost brake system.
The biggest problem with motorhomes is that they sit a lot and things tend to die from neglect.
But. the engine and parts can be used on just about any project with no realm problems.
The fuel tank(if it's a P-30 style chassie)was also used under the rear of custom dually pick-ups as extra capacity.
If it don't leak,the old body is good for storage too!
I traded for the one in the background.It's an 87.

$500 is a great price for the good parts, but factor in what it will cost to get rid of the rest of the hulk. If it is a big Class A, the axles are not much good for anything other than another MH. The wheels will be 19in. If it is a Class C (Van front) the rear will be a Dana 60 or 70 and can be used under a pick-up.
I have delt with one before, and getting rid of the junk is difficult and/or expensive. It will be aluminum on the outside, but glued to wood. So it is not easy to recycle it. One Million screws hold it together, and with the age, not many people will be interested in the parts from the home portion.
However, if you have the room on your property to use it as storage, it may work out just fine.

If you have room, get it and pull what you can use off it. If you have kids in your life, yours, relatives, friends, etc. make a deal that if they disassemble and sort the the remains, they get to keep the proceeds from the salvage yard.

If it has a generator that works, another plus.

If the refrigerator is in good working condition,it is worth some bucks too!Not to mention the roof air unit(s)!

Thanks guys. It is a Winnebago chieftain. 27 footer that is one step from a meth lab. I really don’t want this monster sitting around but would really like the engine. I think I am going to walk away from it but dang it is tempting.
