fresh air actuators

Was looking for some direction on which air vacuum actuators I will need. My 83' originally had ac but has been removed and I will only being using heat and defrost. I am wondering if I need all of the fresh air canister/actuators that I originally had with the AC. Such has the actuator that goes in the cowl and the vacuum canister that was on the firewall.

Please let me know what I need just for the heat to function properly.

non a/c trucks got pull lever units .

i have never seen a floor vent with vac control my self .

Ok, yeah mine is an original AC truck, so I am just trying to figure out which parts I need to keep and which I can discard just to run the heater/defrost.

If you are keeping the under the dash venting, You will want the one that switches between the center bottom heater vent and the defrost vents. You may also want the one that sends air to the middle dash vents. Handy when the side windows fog up. Probably can get rid of the one that recirculates air (located on the passenger side kick panel. If you keep any of the vacuum actuators, you need to keep the vacuum ball on the firewall.

Thanks for the info. Do I need to have the vacuum actuators in order to blow air through the vents? What is the purpose of those actuators. I am trying to make the fire wall as stripped down as I can while still keeping the heater unit. So I would prefer to not have the vacuum canister back on the firewall if I dont need it.

The vacuum flappers are pretty integral to the AC system. One switches between floor and defrost, the other between side vents and floor/defrost.

If you really want to delete the vacuum, might be better to wonder the salvage yards and find a complete heat only system. It also has a smaller engine compartment footprint.

Nothing says you can't move the canister inside the cab. Just extend the manifold vacuum through the firewall, use the existing hole for the small control hose.

If you do find a heat only system, probably can unload the AC parts on this forum.

and the heat only system you need to change the firewall pattern . but thats crazy easy to do with a thin sheet of tin .

you could also do a shaved firewall 100% and install this inside for heat. https://www.powersportsplace.com/Sea...20cab%20heater

run the coolant hoses were you want them . and run duct hoses were you want them . then swap in man floor vent controls over the vac can operated units .

Wish I knew this before I did this. So right now I have one of those aftermarket covers which allows me to mount the original heater. It should still look very clean but the idea of it full shaved and still having a heater would have been sweet.
I wont be driving this truck in the winter but for sure in the fall so some defrost and heat will be nice to have.
