2 Bbl Carb conversion

So my truck is out of commission right now. I just rebuilt the 1 barrel Rochester carb for my 61’ 235 straight 6 because it was leaking, I’ve driven it around the block since then a couple of times, but today when I started the motor, it starting leaking like a water fall out of what it looks like the base of the bowl to throttle body.

Anyways after reading many threads about converting to a 2 Barrel 32/36 carb, I’m almost wanting to say the hell with it and throw the damn Rochester 1 barrel away, I keep hearing about how many people dislike them because of how unreliable they are and performance.

Looking more into the conversion I can’t seem to figure out how someone could work out the throttle linkage. I’m finding threads only about the conversion on a 250/292 straight 6’s

Looks like the throttle valve On the carb is facing on the left side, while the stock set up with a 1 barrel is facing on the backside, facing nearest to the firewall, how could I make that work.

I’d love to see a few pictures of anyone’s 235 straight 6 with a 2 barrel 32/36 Webber Holley set up and linkage.

Isaiah, I have a 292 with Webers. I fought all kinds of leaks with the manifold and rebuild kits for my Rochester. The Webers are great. In know you said you looked at that application already and maybe the 235 or the specific Weber you are looking at are different than the 292 and my 38s, but my Weber chokes(electric) face to the front and my linkage is on the passenger side of the carb. I made my own linkage and it runs straight back to the firewall and connects directly to the gas pedal. It is not the most professional looking but it works pretty well. It was super easy to build and connect.
I can snap some photos if you think it might help. I have a thread on here asking about Clifford headers and it has a photo of my original setup. If my linkage looks like yours it should be simple.

Looking at yours and more pictures, I was looking at it wrong, I believe the carb I’m looking at, will sit like yours, so linkage may not be as difficult as I was thinking, I believe I could do something similar to what you did there! What year is your truck? I have a 1961, I think the positioning of the gas pedal and linkage are all the same.

My truck is a 63. The pedals will be the same. My linkage in the photo is the prototype, I made it adjustable until I found what I thought would be the right length. I made an additional bracket to attach the return spring also. Again not super professional but super simple. I have a couple more photos that might help. Just have to dig them up.

Clifford has a manifold and Webers for a 235. Peirce manifold also sells Weber, and I believe Redline might also. I purchased mine through Clifford.

Used the Weber part as a template and made my own out of aluminum. The clearance was tight but it worked like a charm. Took a while to find a good spring that would not bind. I’m going to make another one and move the hole back toward the fire wall to see if that helps.

Man that’s a nice set up! How do you like the performance? Hope you don’t mind if I steal your idea! I’m going with just a single Weber and get the adapter to use the stock manifold, keep it simple

It really woke up the motor. I’m fighting some fuel delivery issues now, but that is pump and tank related. Also I’m still running the manual granny tranny. I’m real quick and torquey between 2nd and 3rd.
The return spring is attached to the bracket I made at the rear of the carb. It’s hard to see in the photo. It’s right under the linkage in the photo. The spring looks like a silver tube in this pic. The bracket is bolted on using the bolt that mounts the carb to the adapter plate on the manifold. I’ll get a better pic in the morning. I really need to move the spring hole back though. I think it would help.

Not in a C10, but here's the 235 that was in my 52 Styleline with a pair of Webers. I think I used a langdon linkage kit and I found the carbs cheaper elsewhere. IIRC the carbs are for a 70's model Ford Pinto.

I totally forgot about Tom Langdon. Also the other Tom at 12bolt. He was very helpful when I had questions about my inline.

That’s a bad ass set up you got there! I’m wondering how just one Weber on a stock mamifoldwould do compares to those you have!

A single would probably be fine. I liked the webers much better than the rochesters. I rebuilt my rochesters constantly and had a shelf full of spares and parts. The webers just worked. I went from the single rochester to 3 rochesters to the dual webers. By far the webers were the most reliable and responsive.

Ditto about the Rochesters. I was messing with mine all the time. The Webers completely removed the headache. Here is a close up of my return spring. I’m going to change the aluminum to steel for durability. It looks super close, but I have about 1/8 in clearance at the bar. Oh, and please don’t compare my skills to anyone on this forum. Check out Indychus and his build thread. Serious skills. As you know this is an awesome place to learn and witness others and their skills.

How come you had to make your own bracket for the spring?

When I received my package from the “Brown”uniformed delivery guy, affectionately know in my house as the “Chucker” the package ended up on my door step with a double sized fist hole in the box with two thirds of the nuts, bolts and springs missing. Rather than fight the “He said he said” BS I went out on my own. I originally ordered a cable for the throttle but it was not a complete system after the disastrous shipping issue. I needed to have it running so I went with what I thought would work. So far so good. It does need improving though. But it gets me to work and back.
