Re: Who built your 4L80E? Recommendations?
Id find a builder locally.
That way if any issues much easier to sort out. Jakes performance is well known I guess - never used myself.

Re: Who built your 4L80E? Recommendations?
Jakes, Monster I've seen used across forums for years. Most aren't doing anything different than each other, its mostly parts selection and pricing. I do know that Jake's was the go-to online place for the 60/80e overdrive crowd.
I had mine done at a local shop, just make sure the place actually rebuilds transmissions...there are a number of "transmission" shops that just do junkyard swaps and converters etc.

Re: Who built your 4L80E? Recommendations?
Has anyone bought from JustChevyTrucks/LSX4U? They will ship me a reman 4L80E for $1800. My local trans shop quoted me $2800.

Thats a pullout I believe. Think the company is ok but not a builder. Unless I have my wires crossed on memory.

Re: Who built your 4L80E? Recommendations?
No, I've been emailing with Stu direct and he quoted me $1500 (core charge included) which matches the pricing on their website plus $300 shipping. From what I can tell, they work with a local builder (Dr. Steve's).

Re: Who built your 4L80E? Recommendations?
Good to know.
Still wouldn't touch it unless you know who the builder is and their local. Finding a good core and rebuilding yourself is always an option.

Re: Who built your 4L80E? Recommendations?
From my research online at Monster and Transmission Depot, they're right around the $2600 as compared to my local shop. I'm curious how LSX4U can sell them for $1500. Hopefully someone here has had experience with LSX4U and can provide some feedback. They have good reviews on Facebook (for what it's worth) and their reman transmissions come with 24 mo/24,000 mile warranties.

Rebuild kit $400 So he still has $800 in 'labor' Ask him if the input shaft and forward drum are replaced in his reman "build". --- reworded Ask each builder (LSX4U and whoever else your comparing) to provide a build sheet on on NEW/REUSED parts and any upgrades if any. Convertor etc. Then you'll have a good idea how much your paying for parts and how much for builders warranty/IP etc.

Re: Who built your 4L80E? Recommendations?
I wont build a 4L80e without replacing the input shaft and forward drum....
Despite the improved longevity of the 4L80e over previous models, these parts are a weak link just waiting to bite ya ! Just my humble opinion all... I have had the pleasure of building over 100 of these animals....

Re: Who built your 4L80E? Recommendations?
I had my 4l60e loose 3/4 . I called the local gm dealer and priced one . To my surprice it was not too bad . I did the install and was still covered under warranty if it failed . If it did they would remove repair or replace up until 3 year 30,000 miles . Just be sure to document the mileage with them if you go this way .
I dont know what the 4l80e would cost but it may be worth a call . You will have to give them a core . Just another option to look at . |

Re: Who built your 4L80E? Recommendations?
I confirmed today with LSX4U that their builder replaces the input shaft, drum, and all of the typical rebuild kit parts (filter, gaskets, o-rings, plates, bands, sprags, solenoids, and harness). I am going to start a new thread looking for reviews.

Mine is a Jakes Stage 5 guts + some other upgraded parts, assembled by TransBuilderGuy in Florida. Robert is legit.
