Re: 66 k20
Pulled this signal stat 105 out of my parts cab. Yes, I drilled a hole in the dash. I do have the bracket for it but didn’t feel like fighting the hardware holding it in the old cab. Tried using the choke hole first but there just isn’t quite enough room, and I’m pretty sure I’ve seen them like this before. “Period correct”. Lol

Truck looked good at the show man! Reminds me of an old pulling truck with the stance and the 15's on there lol.

Re: 66 k20
Awesome work and cool to see you enjoying it with fellow gearheads. Did you find the source of the noise?

Re: 66 k20
A few more minor things got done over the extended weekend. Put in a radio and antenna I had laying around. As well as a close to period cb. Also put these 1 ton emblems on. I know they’re the wrong year and it’s not a K30 but I still like them and will make people ask questions.

You realize, you have 65 emblems on your truck?

Re: 66 k20
Does the cb work or is it just for looks?

Re: 66 k20
It works. I’m trying to decide what antenna to use and where to put it. I’ve got a 9’ whip but not sure if I want to go that retro lol

Re: 66 k20
I bought a 4:10 ho72 last weekend and I’m going to pick up another later this week don’t know what ratio yet. Haven’t done any more.

Re: 66 k20
I think your going to like that 4:10 rear, it's a great ratio for these trucks. You can still pull, but allows you to cruse at 60. Should be no problem finding a matching r&p for the front Dana 44 (new or used), much more common than for the HO rears.
While your tearing into that rear, now is a great time to weld in a pipe bung for a drain plug. That's the one thing they are missing, and with clean oil they truly last forever. I'm putting my money on your noise being in the transfer case. Even after a total rebuild of mine, truck still sounds like it has a bad ring and pinion about to blow. As I said in an earlier post I ran the truck with Xfer bypassed during rebuild, so I know exactly where the noise is coming from. Looks like my next project is some serious sound proofing. Keep up the good work on the project, Tom

I looked at Randys at a r&p set for the front, it wasn't too bad but they said I would likely need a new yoke as the old ones were coarse splined. I'm going to pick up this other center section this weekend and see what ratio it is then make my decision. I've also been thinking about dynamat or some sort of home depot knock off, and just ignoring the noise until something blows up. I called a local trans shop that I know does t-case rebuilds to see if they had ever worked on one of these, when they mentioned TorqueKing as a parts source I had a feeling they could handle it. Looks like a monster to get out of there though. Thanks again for all your advice, I really do appreciate it. Been waiting and hoping you'd chime in shortly. |

Re: 66 k20
I like these nmo antennas, they flex easily and don’t look obnoxious. I don’t know if this is ideal mounting spot (I know the middle of the cab would be best) but I’m going to try it a while.

Re: 66 k20
Ordered a fender from rockauto the other day. The old one was beyond saving so I didn’t feel too bad about hacking it up to get it off. The new one is just hanging on there for tonight, it will need a lot of tweaking.

Re: 66 k20
I hope your rear gears fix your problem. The xfer case is easy to drop out. The upper rear input shaft bearing will come out easy with out pulling case out at least it did on mine. I would look at the shop manual and see if you can fix it yourself it not too complicated. It'll save you money as all parts alone at least 500. And if you need input shaft its near unobtanium.
