Gas Choice for 1972 GMC - Original Engine
What type of gas should I be running in my 1972 GMC BB 402ci? The best I know the engine has never been rebuilt and is all original, still running strong at 99,000 miles. Octane? Lead or No Lead?
Thanks! |

That is a low compression engine. Some where in the 8:1 range. 87 octane unleaded should be fine.
Who sells leaded gas where you live??? |

It will run on any grade you put in it.
No need for lead.

I use high test in all my old cars . Not so much for the octane but it's the only non ethanol gas available

Less ethanol would be good for the fuel system, otherwise it'll burn near anything and has no special octane requirements.

Non-ethanol gas would be best (primarily for the fuel system components) but you can run regular octane. If you find leaded gas, I wouldn't use it, as it's been banned since 1996 - that would be some pretty old gas you'd be putting in your tank.
