Clam shell motor mount question

Hi all,
I have a 86 C10 5.3 and I think my rubber mounts are done as they are brittle and cracked all over. Just wondering if there is anything new out there besides the energy suspension and store bought rubber mounts. I have tried to search, but can't find what I am looking for exactly.

Some say the rubber won't last long, some like the poly and some don't.

Any advise?

Thanks.

Re: Clam shell motor mount question

my rubber mounts have been working since 1981..with the 350 and the 6.0..no issues
ive been seeing people with poly mounts are having issues with vibrations though

Re: Clam shell motor mount question

Thank for the reply Mongo and Sweetk30. I really like the LS mounts you provided SweetK30, I have an inquiry to them. All I need it the actual mounts, not the adapters too.

I do wonder about the vibrations though. I switched to solid mounts on my mustang and while noticeable, not really that bad.

Ben

Re: Clam shell motor mount question

old57 had poly mounts on his and thought he had a driveline vibration..was told to swap poly for rubber, and his vibration problems went away

I used Anchor Industries, I think from what I remember reading is that they were of higher quality compared to some of the other brands. They seemed nice when I installed them but thats as far as I have used them, my truck isnt running yet.

Re: Clam shell motor mount question

Beware of cheap overseas brands. My buddy and I struggled to get a SBC to mount in his ElCamino due to cheap Chinese mounts. Advice: Don't buy the cheapest set!

Re: Clam shell motor mount question

all the ones i have posted can be swapped to rubber with a simple pair of replacement rubber leaf spring bushings for the size and depth of the tube were the polly goes in .

i did this on a set of drop shackles i had the polley was gone on and i had some rubber leaf spring bushings hanging around from a rubber to polly swap i did . pressed in just fine and they work good and ride just like stock .

Re: Clam shell motor mount question

Nobody has yet to mention it, so I’ll add that Holley also offers poly inserts for the early GM clamshell mounts and also for the GM 4th-gen F-Body LS1 engine mounts. I mentioned them both since each of them used in the designs of the various Hooker Blackheart LS swap systems. The Hooker Blackheart 73-87 C10 swap engine brackets use the early type clamshells and the engine brackets in the soon to be released 67-72 C10 LS swap system use the LS1 clamshells. They both work well in an LS application. If you don’t want to hassle with drilling out the rivets from the stock clamshell cages, you can also buy the cage halves from Holley, which makes it strictly bolt-in operation.
