Alternator Bracket with Short Pump and Throttle Linkage Questions

Sorry for the stream of questions, but trying to sort out all the final details on my 292 to 350 swap.

1. I have the 350 Chevy crate motor, a (new) short water pump, and the pulleys off a 1971 C10 307 with the short water pump (unfortunately did not come with the alternator brackets). No power steering or A/C. What alternator bracket to order? Classic Industries has about a dozen to choose from.

2. What did you I6 to V8 guys do for throttle linkage? I'll be running a Edelbrock Performer intake and Edelbrock carb.

As always...Thanks!

Re: Alternator Bracket with Short Pump and Throttle Linkage Questions

Truck would have had the alternator bottom bracket made into the exhaust manifold. Here is a good thread with information on the early setup.

Here is one more with the bracket that uses the heads with the mounting holes in them.

For throttle linkage I have converted the last couple trucks to cable.

Re: Alternator Bracket with Short Pump and Throttle Linkage Questions

I won't have the Rams Horns, I decided to go with the Hedman headers. With a short pump, would the alternator be on the drivers or passenger side? I'm going to assume the modern 350 crate motor has accessory holes in the heads (engine arrives today)?

Alternator goes on the drivers side with a short pump.
Here’s a link to some brackets.

With an engine that has the accessory holes, I prefer to use this setup from the '69-'72 trucks. It is good and solid.

For the throttle, I would suggest a universal mechanical throttle rod from Jegs, Summit or Speedway.

Re: Alternator Bracket with Short Pump and Throttle Linkage Questions

For your throttle linkage you can just use some steel rod and thread the end, the linkage arm at the firewall pivot was longer on the V8’s, most of the time. I wandered through a local wrecker and it seemed most V8 trucks had a longer arm. I went from a 230 to 327 , the rest is just a chunk of 1/4” SS rod that I threaded the one end.

Bills truck shop in Ontario sells them but they’re easily found at the wrecker and then you can grab the threaded rod and clip at the same time.
