Titleless trucks

So you bought a truck with no title , and it's obvious that it has not run or moved in years title's lost and you want to resurrect it , whats the easiest way to title it ....I have done it many times in the past but now DMV is having you get it appraised .. I have used title jockeys (call them what you may ) but thats 250 .00 .. so what has been your experience .. If you have an old registration the it goes pretty easy , but you know how that is ,that's the first thing to go when someone starts cleaning a truck.. bonded title is not need for 10 year or older trucks under 2500.00 value ..

Re: Titleless trucks

This is completely based on the laws in your state. Go to your DMV website and gather the info from there.
There are always 40 posts to this question on what someone did in state XX, which have nothing to do with MI.

Sage advice, since states vary so much. I was given a really nice '54 Chevy 2-door post car by a farmer in payment for work I did for him, in Idaho. The easiest solution was to re-register it in Idaho, since it had been unregistered for 7 years. It went to California with new plates. Piece of cake to register it in California.

Re: Titleless trucks

You can do a bonded title, which puts an insurance policy against the title, if someone comes up and proves it is theirs before the 3 year time frame, you get the bond and they get the truck.
$4000 minimum so it’s easy.

As previously stated the title laws are different in each state. You can't truthfully say that what works in Texas will work in MI. That said, here's a link that discusses MI bonded titles. It isn't a state website though.

Re: Titleless trucks

I did look up Michigan Bonded titles. Here is the link I looked at, no it’s not an “official” DMV site but it does discuss bonded titles in Michigan.

Bonded titles are found in most states. Not all.

Re: Titleless trucks

There are companies that do just want I brought up about selling it to mongo, I had an antique boat that was sold to Cypress Gardens they never license it. I went to a company that I sold it to for $1 plus title fees and a handling charge. They sent me an Alabama registration that I took to the Florida DMV and titled it in my name, it was like there never was a problem with the title. This works in all states

They won't issue titles here. I had one for my 67 mustang and they wouldn't even transfer it to my name. Or are you saying the registration we get can be used to get a title in other states?

The registration you get in Alabama can be used to get a title in other states I know I was saying title I meant registration but Alabama is not the only state that this can be done in if you pick up an auto trader you will find ads from company’s offering this service

Re: Titleless trucks

Use the Vermont loophole. There is ton of info on the web about how it works and is super easy. I had to go this route to clear Salvage from my title. Fill out the form, pay tax on NADA list value, small fee and 2 weeks later you get tags and registration in the mail. You cant dispute NADA so paying the high tax on a rust heap is painful but thats why they haven't closed the loophole $$$. Vermont uses the registration as proof of ownership, no title. You can either run the Vermont tags or transfer it to your state so you get an actual title.
