Soaked plug one cylinder
6 year project 2003 6.0 from an SS Silverado with a 4L80e. Went to check for oil pressure etc prior to starting the first time and it locked with fluid. #6 cylinder plug soaked removed all plugs and the #6 blew gasoline everywhere out of the spark plug hole. Gasoline in the oil now to from filling the cylinder. I did run it for 20 seconds and it sounded fine but next day turned the key on and it filled the #6 again. Afraid to start engine again. Any advice on troubleshooting this would be greatly appreciated. So close to seeing the road with this thing.

Re: Soaked plug one cylinder
You have an injector stuck open, just replace it. Not worth trying to unstick it because you never know when it will do it again and you don't want to damage something trying to start a hydrolocked engine. When I had this happen, I tried to start it and it knocked a tooth off the flexplate, luckily it didn't bend a rod.

Re: Soaked plug one cylinder
I'd send all your injectors off to be cleaned if it's been sitting for a long time. You have one that is most likely stuck open but you might have others that aren't opening as far and running lean.
I had two on mine that were stuck shut. I sent the set off to be cleaned and had 3 more that were leaned out. After cleaning there were all back to operating evenly with the correct flow. |

Re: Soaked plug one cylinder
Thanks all. I’ll have them cleaned and flowed and see where I’m at

Re: Soaked plug one cylinder
What's involved in cleaning and flow testing injectors? Who does it? Where do I send them? Is it cheaper than new injectors from rockauto?

Re: Soaked plug one cylinder
change your oil. seen 2 engine seize connecting rod bearings to crank because of of oil saturated with fuel because of an stuck open injector. oil cheap, engine not so cheap.. or listen to cuzen ed that said he had no problem. your sounds pretty bad as you can aslso have a bent rod if you tired using the starter to crank it. compression check it and see what the max deviation between other cylinders and the one filled with fuel is. if its quite a bit.. no bueno.

Re: Soaked plug one cylinder
Got me cleaned and flow checked cost me $22 each. Changed oil. Thanks for the advice. I still have no oil pressure but that's another problem I'm trying to figure out

Re: Soaked plug one cylinder
I'm getting closer to starting my engine that has sat for a few years. I pulled the fuel rails off and the gas in them was pretty bad. I considered cleaning my injectors myself after researching on you tube but I decided to replace my injectors with new.

used oem injectors on eBay are about $50. You can hook them up to the rail and see if they leak before installing. Or you can Jaír test the ones you have to see which is not working.

Re: Soaked plug one cylinder
Check LS1 tech forum. There is a company in north GA called Fuel injection connection. I believe they can clean and flow yours or sell you "new" rebuilt injectors.
I'd be careful about the ebay rebuilt. A couple of tuners that I've used said the same thing. You have to buy rebuilt injectors from a well regarded rebuilder because if the rebuilder doesn't know what they are doing the injectors can end up with different flow rates the make tuning a real pain. |
