66 ignition help

Working on a factory 66 K10 and got it running w/ original 327. Put an NV4500 Transmission w/ Advanced Adapter bell housing. Powermaster high speed starter. Starts up and runs great. Problem I'm having is when i switch the ignition off, power is being bumped back to the solenoid and it sends the bendix back into the flywheel, grinding it briefly. I checked my ignition switch with a multimeter to see if I'm getting a surge to the solenoid post when i switch it off and I'm not. I'm using a Painless harness with all new wires. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Re: 66 ignition help

Figured it out myself. "Hot wired" it to eliminate the switch all together and when disconnecting the Batt and ignition terminals to shut it down it doesn't throw the starter. Needs a new ignition switch

Re: 66 ignition help

Never mind, back to square one. Ordered a new ignition switch and installed it and it is still doing the same thing. Any suggestions?

Re: 66 ignition help

Can you isolate the wire that is giving the problem and follow it back? Anything to do with the charging indicator light, if it has one? Alternator feeding it somehow?

I'll unplug the alternator and give that a try. Thanks for the suggestion

Re: 66 ignition help

A diode in the exciter wire going to the alternator fixed the issue. Thanks for the help
