1960 apache lowering options

Was wondering if there was a good way to lower the 60-62 style with the torsion bar front suspension or am I better off to swap in a 73-87 front cross memeber? I have both but truck is a factory v8 and wanted to keep original motor in it

Re: 1960 apache lowering options

So how low do you want to go?
If you want to lay rail then you will have to swap out the torsion bar suspension. You can air bag a 60-62 but the torsion bars will need to be removed
The torsion bolt/key cross member will limit your drop with stock set up
I am running drop spindles and cranked torsion bars up front with some drop springs out back. This is about how low I can go due to my headers .

Re: 1960 apache lowering options

I used to have a 4.5 inch drop on mine. 2.5 inch drop spindles and around 2 inches using the torsion bars. That is the way I would go.

2.5" drop spindles and bars if not bagging. This is all bar before bags for me. Rear was bagged. The full truck photo is 235/60/15, the other is 215/70/15 at 27" tall a lil closer to height of the 245/45/18s that it rolls on now. This is as low with 3" clearance on inner fenders... note pork chops hanging

Re: 1960 apache lowering options

Put a 73 cross member under it and get disks too.

Sleepysal has it dialed, but I had nothing but issues with a 60 I did.

No prob!!
I went with drop spindles and disc up front and a 1967 (3.73) 5 lug rearend out back. If your truck is a stick you will have to address the clutch master cylinder, but Capt. Fab has a nice set up for sale. I pieced the parts together over time ,Mccaughy spindles CPP rear springs , and shocks.POL supplied the prop valve and lines I got the master cylinder and front brakes (Disc, pads calipers, hose bearings etc) from a local parts house.

I had this post but the pics went away

Thanks .... man it bugged me that you had so much trouble with yours. I kept hoping it would work out.

I went 2 1/2" dropped spindles and turned the torsion bars - I'm guessing around 7" total up front and 4" dropped springs in the rear. I like the very small rake I have on the stance..
