LS swaps?

Pretty new to the LS subject but I have been doing some research and notice a ton of people are finding these :S's and building them with incredible power.

Don't know if this forum is familiar with the Driveway engineer you tube video's, he does a great job showing what can be done with LS he pulls from the junkyard (some of his methods I do not agree with) but I love the fact he is sharing all of this information with the world.

He claims you can easily make 400-600 rear wheel horse power on one of these 4.8, 5.3 or 6.0 motors, with a turbo.

Anybody else enjoying his work?

Hot rod magazine has great write ups on these.

Watch how much hp you build with a turbo. It gets really easy to get big hp, but you run into cylinder pressure issues.

The engine is the easy and cheap part. The ECU (stock isn't the best option with boost anymore), fuel system, converter, and trans are the expensive pieces!

But I love my turbo C10. So much fun to drive and runs 11.50 on 10psi, and cruises so quiet you don't even know it's not stock.

Heh, almost in the tens in a pickup?
I always thought of LS motors as not making a lot of torque. Maybe I should do more reading...

Thats sort of a myth, sort of not. Remember that your 4.8's are 292ci and 5.3's are 325ci... when was the last time you saw someone say that the old 283 and 327's made a ton of torque?

Its all in cam selection. Like most other small block chevys, they wont be the torque monster of a big block, but its not as if they are high strung like a 4 or 6cyl.

Sure, valve angles that promote bigger power numbers might hurt low end torque, but I think 225+ft/lbs at the wheels from 2500rpm - 5000rpm isn't bad in a stock engine. To quote Steve Brule and David Freiburger, if this was a traditional 327, you'd be pretty excited about those numbers on a moderate build, except because of good flowing heads, the LS series engines do it stock.
