Shift Indicator
My shift indicator housing is broken. The tab that attaches it to steering column broke and the thing won't stay put.
But more interestring is the wire that leads to the small plastic clear (Red) part should have light ???????Nothing there almost looks like the end of a fiber optic. What it is?? How can I fix it? Chris

there's a real good reason why it looks like fiberoptic= it is fiberoptic!!
the fiberoptic is connected to a lightbulb in the dash cluster

Thanks cdowns.
Now I will look for the attachment to the light bulb in dash, there is not light emmiting from the optic. Is there a possiblity it is dislodged or maybe the light bulb is burned out? Chris P.S. Im restoring a 1958 Matchless thought you might like to know. My wife owned a 49 Whizzer when she was a kid.

The fiber optic cable plugs into a special light socket that is plugged into the dash on the left side of the speedometer (as you look at it from the front). To remove the light socket, twist counter clockwise as in loosening a screw.
It is very possible that the bulb is burned out. Jim |
