1st Ls Swap 72K10 Ly6/T56

My name is Ryan Burks and I am 20 years old. I am just starting my first build on my first vehicle I bought. 72 Cheyenne K10. I believe I have found the motor I want which is a 2009 Ly6 out of a 3500hd so VVT only. My truck is originally a 4 on the floor and I want to keep the manual transmission. However I have a few questions when it comes to that...

Why do you not see many posts about these swaps with manual transmissions? I know they’ve been done, but info seems to be a lot more limited on them rather than automatic trans. I’m wanting to put a T56 in it and was wondering what all I’ll need for the T56 to connect to my motor and transfer case. Any other problems that may occur along the way I should be warned about? Thanks! Any help is appreciated!

Re: 1st Ls Swap 72K10 Ly6/T56

Nice truck....if your really wanting a manual I'd keep your current trans or id be looking for a nv4500 and transfer case over a t56...expense is the biggest reason you dont see many..
That t56 is a very long transmision..and the shifter will almost be under the seat if you dont relocate it..
The double od will be useless unless you got some really low axle gears...
it all needs to work together....Engine rpm, tire size, axle ratios, trans gearing
And i dont know if theres a adapter for t56 to pass side drop xcase ...a divorced transfer case would be the best option.....any way you look at it its gonna be expensive...
I would also look for a older LS engine without vvt..but that should be a good engine..just be sure to get everything you need when/if you get it..

Theres parts lists out there that go into detail about using factory parts to put a manual behind a LS...I looked and couldn't find what I needed ,so I went with advance adapters to connect my LS to the nv4500...

I will be running a TKO behind my LQ4 in my 2wd, but for your 4x4 swap I’d also advise an NV4500.
Here’s some info about clutches and flywheels.

Re: 1st Ls Swap 72K10 Ly6/T56

Thank you! I looked into the nv4500 as well. My only question with them was what are the best stand alone harness’s for them? I was looking at PSI and a few others and for all their Gen4 6.0 with a manual transmission it was either the T56 or 6060. I don’t think VVT will be that big of a deal for me. I don’t need to make a super crazy amount of horse power. One thing I for sure didn’t want was the AFM/DOD. I’m wanting to upgrade the cam in the Ly6, but I just want a mild cam to where I don’t need to change the Valve Springs, but can gain a good 50-100hp if possible.... I appreciate everything! You guys are awesome!

Could I use a transfer case out of a 90’s Chevy to where I wouldn’t even need to get an adapter? Thanks!

Re: 1st Ls Swap 72K10 Ly6/T56

Im not sure how the gen4 engine are, but You don't need any wiring harness for a nv4500...any of the psi harness for a manual will work...but wait till you get a engine before you buy a harness...then call psi or whoever and tell them what your doing...they will tell you what you need..
The only issue you'll have is converting the pulse speedo to a cable drive...Dakota digital makes a box that does that...

Transfer cases from the 90s are driver side drop...you need pass side drop...the only one I'm aware of in the 90s was a np241 in the 3/4t suburbans 90-91

I am actually headed to pick it up now, it is complete. Will my original gauges work with this and the nv4500? Will I need to move my gas tank or can I leave it and put a fuel pump on the frame rail?

Re: 1st Ls Swap 72K10 Ly6/T56

You'll need a adapter to hook up the oil pressure and a way to hook up water temp sender...
I drilled and tapped the passenger side head for temp sender..the ecm will need the temp sender on the drivers side head...the oil pressure sender can go where the LS sender is, buts needs the metric to npt adapter....
the nv4500 would be a pulse style speedometer and you'll need to convert that to cable drive...Dakota digital makes a box for that...
something else to consider will be your clutch setup...if you use factory parts ,it will be a hyd clutch..so you'll need a hyd clutch slave setup...the AA kit uses a bellcrank setup...which makes a obstacle for exhaust...

This will solve the hydraulic clutch conversion dilemma.

Would my original t-case from my truck work with the nv4500? It’s a NP205, may have to get an adapter but maybe it would...?
Thanks!

Yes it can work with a 4x4 nv4500 to np 205..https://www.advanceadapters.com/prod...kit-replsm465/
But again...not a cheap adapter..https://www.advanceadapters.com/prod...kit-replsm465/
