Goodmark repro parts vs other reproduction parts?

Simple really.

What is the perception out there?

Based on real parts fitted, swearing, fettling, hammering and regrets.

How have you guys found these parts compared to original parts (beyond the fact that original will always be original)

I am going to import a pair of wings to replace the very rotten and damaged pair on my 66 here in England. Front Fenders...... $122.79 Goodmark [Rock Auto] Then you need to add shipping, taxes and import duties.

Just been digging around on Rock Auto website.

One reproduction fender costing £90.00 or $122.00

Delivered to the UK for £281.00 or $368.00

I want to replace both the fenders outright as they are so damaged, but looking at these prices, it almost makes sense to fly out and bring them back as baggage.

They said it would be interesting

So looking at various options where maybe getting the balance right.

A few pics of my original fenders as illustration

Drivers side fender.

Patch panels may not be big enough.

Passenger side. Some small dents up front to address.....

The rest of it though.......

I think I may be needing either a replacement used fender, or a half a used fender, or a pattern part, complete fender.

This will be interesting.

Very interesting

Re: Goodmark repro parts vs other reproduction parts?

Buying the whole part or patch panels, many threads here recommend Top Banana.
Triplus and Keyparts are of a heavier gauge and better match to the original contours.

Re: Goodmark repro parts vs other reproduction parts?

I just bought both , Tri Plus and Goodmark front fender patch panels.

The Goodmarks are horrible !! At the peak of the edge of wheel opening theres like a 1/8 inch radius then straight in to the opening , should be about a 1/2 inch radius. Then the indentation to the flat of the panel is , one too deep and two, its just a straight angle instead of a soft radius into the flat area.

The Tri Plus is closer in the wheel opening peak radius and closer in the depth of the stamp but still a straight angle instead of a soft radius into the flat of the fender . The lower portion is better but the further up you go the more its off.

Im only using the bottom six inches so Im ok but will be reshaping the Tri Plus a bit to get it more factory looking before I install it.

Re: Goodmark repro parts vs other reproduction parts?

I recently patched my fenders and used Tri-plus patches. They fit well and the ones I got are 17" long while others I have looked at were only 12" inches, If you're choose to patch you are probably going to need inner fender braces also.

Re: Goodmark repro parts vs other reproduction parts?

When I was working on my '64 Suburban I went to 2 local parts places and looked at another set of new fenders a friend had. I believe they were Goodmark, Triplus and the third said Acme on the boxes.

All of these had a similar shape to stock but the biggest problem was the piece that is spot welded in the front (I have pointed out the location on your original fender in the photo). There were large gaps between that piece and the fender. This section also looked odd next to the grill surround since they didn't line up.

So really they fit, I just didn't like how they looked. So I think it matter how picky you are and your ability to fix the originals.

Re: Goodmark repro parts vs other reproduction parts?

Somebody need to start a business in the UK/Scandinavia importing repo and good used 47-66 GM parts in via container. The parts are cheap enough, shipping is ridiculous. One would thing there is enough of these stove bolts in europe to support the industry there.

Re: Goodmark repro parts vs other reproduction parts?

I zealously post that there is a definite difference in quality of the pieces. Tri-plus and Keyparts are an obvious better quality.

Re: Goodmark repro parts vs other reproduction parts?

Grizz...out of curiosity, do you happen to know the estimated shipping weight and box size that you would be receiving if you ordered new fenders? I ask because I’ve got a good friend who has a business of shipping parts to Guam for his family and friends. Obviously, shipping to Guam is outrageous also.

I have done an approximation

1.5 meter long, 650/700mm tall and 35mm deep.

Naked weight around 6.5kg so up to 8kg mass.

Interestingly, two emails to Rock Auto showed significant interest in selling parts.

This was reply no 2 from them.

(I hope a dog bites him in the balls, simple really as he should not be in that job)

Dear Rian,

We do not have that information to provide as it can very depending on the shipment (packaging material used inside the box, the box sizes available at the time of the shipment, etc). Please note that all of the information we have on the products we sell is listed on our website. Please see our Help page: Choosing a Part.

If you're not seeing the details you are looking for, we do not have them. If you need weight/dimensions, you'll have to ballpark it based on the original part or by performing an online search.

Thank you,

Paul Z.

You are correct! The gap looks terrible! I have them hanging on my garage wall for over a year and slowly getting the medal work done on a replacement cab I have form my 60. Not looking forward on the challenge when I get there..
