Found factory a/c in junkyard today
Hey guys, I found this a/c setup which looks to be factory. Can anyone tell me how complete it is (aside from the center vent)? I have never actually seen the factory ac from this era of trucks in person. Forgot to take a pic of the firewall.

Looks like all the cab stuff is there, next important part is the firewall box.

Re: Found factory a/c in junkyard today
Your pictures are interesting. It's my opinion that the AC was either dealer installed or installed by a previous owner. The dash opening was cut with square corners, where as a factory install had clean rounded corners. What is really interesting, is that the truck has a cheap heater rather than deluxe. The dealer installed AC kits were offered for either heater. It's my understanding, the '64 model year AC was only dealer installed and that kit is a little different from the '65-'66 kits.
I hope Jon (60-66) chimes in here. He can provide a lot more credible information for you. At any rate, you should try to get the unit. It would be good trade material. |

You are right, someone definitely hacked that in, I have never seen factory air with the thrift heater as well.

AC with the Thrift Air heater is pretty unusual. For more information, go to FAQ section and visit the "dealer installed AC" thread. The instructions show the AC controls with the Thrift Air heater. It's my understanding this kit was offered in '64, then a different kit was available in '65-'66.
