47-55.1 Ok Im going with coil spring fronts and coilover rears. What spring rates?

Stats: 52' Chevy 3100 with 5.3ls 4l80E trans. 3:23 chevy 10 bolt

My plan was to originally go with air ride. After much deliberation I decided to just go with Coil Springs in the front and Coilovers in the rear. I am building a daily driver so I am needing help with what spring rates I should go with.

I cant remember what the rear were but I have 450lb coilovers for the front.....LS3 and tr6060....the rears will also depend on if you have a rear fuel tank.but are less than the fronts......would be best to call whoever's your gonna use and let them recommend what you need..

If I remember correctly, you're using a standard MII setup.

There's been a number of discussions about it here and elsewhere. It seems the MII 4 cylinder are what most use for optimum comfort with an AD truck.

Some of it depends on where you're going to mount your tank, what engine, AC, etc... I see you're using an LS, which is lighter than a small block, but the 4L80 is pretty beefy.

I just recently finish the IFS install on my truck. Since I have a 3600 truck and I'm eventually going to add AC, I'm planning on using the 6 cylinder or even station wagon style springs for mine. I would rather have a slightly stiff ride than mushy handling.

Eaton Detroit has a good guide for MII springs. They have more selection than you know what to do with.

As far as coilovers, can't help you there.

Tech at Speedway suggested 210# coilovers on the back. I have a 22 gallon, rear mounted tank. S10 chassis.

Haven't driven it yet...

I think you need to determine corner weights in order to minimize the trial and error method that will ensue.

What's your front suspension - MII?

I used 350 lb fronts and 300 lb rears, but since mine is a panel truck that rear rating may be irrelevant for you.

I applaud your decision to go bagless. As a former "lay frame" guy myself, I decided on this build to eschew any unnecessary accessories or gimmicks and keep it all old school simple.

I know this thread is a year old, but I'll bump it anyway since some people may be looking for more answers/experiences. I have double adjustable rear coilovers that originally came w/ 175# springs. WAY too light. Ran it for about a year. They would compress so easily that I was even rubbing the driveshaft on big bumps! Swapped in 225# springs and it's been perfect. The ride is not harsh at all. Tank is mounted in the rear, original frame.
