1983 Tailgate window motor

Anyone know if the motor from my truck (that bolts to the regulator directly) is the same as any of the door window motors?

No, I don't think so. The one in the tailgate is driven by a cable, similar to the Speedo cable, with a square end. Black one is tailgate. Silver one is window regulator motor.

Please read my post again, it bolts to the regulator. I unbolted it myself, hence my thoughts that it would swap with a window motor.

Re: 1983 Tailgate window motor

It does not interchange with door motors.
What ski-me said is correct.
They are self contained drive motor that spin a cable. Always have been.
What you have done is unbolted the transmission gear NOT the motor from the regulator. Follow the cable and you'll find the motor.
Edit:
You left out part it's a Suburban. Had to guess that from your sig.
No they still don't interchange with the doors.

Re: 1983 Tailgate window motor

Yeah I guess Suburban and Blazer are different.

Here is the motor. The plate is on over the gear in this picture, I put it back on so as to not lose anything.

I have a spare regulator that is cable driven, so I understand the difference.

I can get a picture of the regulator too, but I feel this is also a window motor...

How about this question instead "What window motor is this? LF, LR, RF, RR?"

And here it shows what I have, in the LMC catalog.

Re: 1983 Tailgate window motor

Let me try again...
There is NO interchange. It is NOT a door window motor.
LMC link shows a Sub tailgate window motor. Notice how it's not highlighted?
That means there is no interchange. Nothing replaces it except Sub tailgate window motor and drive.
If it was a door window motor, they'd sell you one in a heartbeat.
I'm not even going to bother with GM part numbers because there is only one.

Look up at ski-me's photos again.

That black rectangle box...that's the K5 motor. The Subs look the same as K5 motors but they can't be separated for replacement. Siiver one is what door motor units look like.
Undo those top 4 bolts off yours and the windings come out.
Sub tailgate replaces as entire unit. Just as door window motors replace as entire unit, which are completely different.

I've parted out over 150 Subs, Blazer and Jimmy in last 35 yrs. so this isn't first time I've had to explain this. Kinda like the Blazer and Sub tailgate glass isn't the same.

And just noticed looking your pix, the gear drive is totally wasted.
Should be a gear on the shaft from the drive transmission.
You may only need the gear

Being that I have the plate over the gear, cant see the gear drive. Have you had success pulling the motor off and cleaning it up? Or do you have any good ones? Id be willing to barter the k5 regulator I have for one.

Re: 1983 Tailgate window motor

Slow reply but I looked but just have a few of the cable version left.
A little info for you to make your search easier.
-'84 is last yr for this style of motor.
-GM station wagons from 68-75 use same motor in tailgate.
-Some passenger cars used motor in doors as well. Think to about '75 or so as well. Not trucks though.
Here are some interchange GM numbers.
5045561, 5045585, 5045587, 5045589, 5045591,
5045594, 5045609

Solid info my man! Thank you.

Would you happen to still have a tailgate motor I need one for my 89 suburban.
