Noise like U-Joints?

65 350 3ott short box 3.73 rear

the noise sounds almost like a loose u-joint
at highway speed it sounds with too little throttle or too much.. as if the engine isnt pulling or pushing the wheels..and the space in between isnt tight

Also have Maybe the same origin of noise when I'm slowing down Without trans in gear.
again like it is slightly off one way or the other from each other
like a bad u-joint...

I've wiggled the drive shaft as checking the u-joint
and seems like the yoke going Into the trans maybe loose??

Re: Noise like U-Joints?

Sounds like it's time to pull the driveshaft and either check it out yourself or just take it to a driveshaft shop. I used to do my own drivelines, but lately it's just been easier to take it to a pro since they have all the right parts and equipment to do it right. My driveshaft needed all new U joints, carrier bearing, and yoke too. They had it done in 48 hours. In fact not only was my yoke shot, so was the bushing in the tailshaft of my 3 speed. (The oil leak kind of let me know that.)

Re: Noise like U-Joints?

slip yoke been geased lately?

hit all the fittings all the way back, look for evidence of lube, might have a crusty spot holding back on you..

if you make a big mess, wipe it all out with shop rags then wrap joints with saran wrap and take a quick hot lap..

pull it back in the shop and pull all the plastic and excess grease off..

as mentioned above, if you've got a strange harmonic that won't go away, might be worth taking entire driveline to a shop..

they'll replace all wear parts and balance it back to new again..

and check trans output shaft while driveline yoke is off..

good luck!

When U-Joints are going bad, they will get hot, like when bearings are going bad.
You can check them after driving with your hand or a temp gun.

U-joints are cheap and easy to replace. I would just replace them and give 'er a run.
