Re: Check engine light

Not sure if you are aware, but you posted this in the LSx classified section not the LSx forum. You may get more feedback there.

Not unique or tricky, but this is what I have wired in for my CEL. I actually already had a 1/2" hole in my dash from the PO so it popped right in and it is pretty unobtrusive. I also liked the fact that the orange lens blended in with my orange dash. Light works, but still in the middle of my swap.

Hope that helps.

I used this light from painless also and there was already a hole in the bottom lip of the dash for it to pop into.

Re: Check engine light

I like the pain. perf. light... I will probably copy to do in my LS swap on my '86. I am wondering if any of you who have wired the CEL would share how you did it? IE: wires used and any tips to willing to share?

Re: Check engine light

The CEL or MIL wire from the pcm puts out a negative signal. It is pin 46 on the red connector from your computer. So in order to make it work, the wire from pin 46 is brown and you will need a keyed hot wire from anywhere in the vehicle. Keeping the negative and positive straight is important especially if you use a LED bulb for your check engine light.

Re: Check engine light

Thanks to everyone pointing out that Painless light. I'm using a tablet for my gauges and wanted a mechanical backup in the event the tablet dies for any reason.

Re: Check engine light

Usually just pop a socket into the choke light lens. It evolved on my C10 when I got a bezel from an 85 Cali emissions truck, they had an addon check engine light in the center top between the two big gauge holes.
