Did 1963 C10/C20 pickups have auto adjust brakes?

These parts came with the truck and I just noticed them after I got my brakes assembled. I’m thinking these are maybe from another year? There’s was nothing like this installed on the truck when I started tearing the brakes down.

My 63 had a 65-70 rear axle swapped in that used a self adjuster similar to that. The original hardware did not include it, but you can use the hardware for say a 66 and it will work on the 63 stuff

Does the spring that holds the shoes together at the bottom rub on the adjuster wheel? If so, those parts are extra. Show us a picture of what you have.

Yes, they do. What does that mean, those parts are extra? Good? Bad? Should I use them?

I figured the guy was in the process of doing a brake job, just never finished. Don’t know if he was going to install those parts; when I got the truck it was totally assembled and driveable. Just that the brakes did not work that great.

When I looked at the front brake shoes, they were almost like new. I replaced them anyways, since I had the parts.

So, should I leave it the way it is or try and use those adjuster plates?

I can get pics tomorrow.

It's different because mine is a c10 and yours is a c20, but this is what mine looked like before I replaced anything. Just trying to help give a general idea. Sorry for the sideways pic, these were taken about 5 years ago with my old phone

If the springs touch the adjuster wheel, that only means that you have manually adjustable brakes, and that you will have to adjust them every so often. Most people opt for self-adjusters, because they keep the pedal height and brake shoe movement to a minimum. It takes some practice to get manual brakes adjusted properly. If those are the only pieces you have, that's not enough, as shown above.

Adding self adjusters is a good upgrade. you will also need to get ahold of the fine tooth star wheel adjusters.

I do have these additional parts. Looks like I am missing one spring.

Anyone have pics of what this looks like installed?

This kit looks like what I would need:

Yup. You can reuse the springs already there to hold the shoes onto the backing plate. 1restorick has a good point, but if you order those kits you'll have the correct star adjuster.
