Real Decision 2020--Valve Covers
Since we are already in a voting mind frame, I was hoping you could help me decide.
I hope to be finished with my truck in the next couple of weeks. I want to swap out my valve covers from the non descript to something that looks way better when I open the hood. I have looked at tons of pictures online and on the forum, but can't decide. I think I have narrowed it down to 3 different covers. If you choose no confidence, please do a write in (picture) candidate. If you post your choice, please also vote. Thanks I approve this message! Engine Bay as it sits now: Choices: |

Re: Real Decision 2020--Valve Covers
#1 and 2 look nice but you need covers with provision for a breather and pcv and oil fill.
I pick #3. If you prefer a leaky motor and enjoy replacing gaskets pick 1 or 2. |

Re: Real Decision 2020--Valve Covers
Polish #1, unpolished #2. If you're going with the PML versions, I can get you better than retail pricing on them. They have the provision for machining the breather and filler on the side of the covers.

Re: Real Decision 2020--Valve Covers
Thanks, SorryI forgot to put the provision that I knew I needed breather, PCV, and oil fill. I can get options #1 and #2 with them also...so the playing field is equal.

Re: Real Decision 2020--Valve Covers
Interesting...I can get those in polished or powder coated also...but I had thought about leaving them raw aluminum...as I don't know what color I would want to powder coat them and polishing adds $235 to the cost...I don't want to spend that much on them, which would be about $600 polished.

Re: Real Decision 2020--Valve Covers
I just machined a set of their Nailhead covers for my Buick 425 Super Wildcat Nailhead build up. Let me know if I can help with the pricing since I'm a dealer for PML. I run their 4L80e trans pan on my C10, as well.

Re: Real Decision 2020--Valve Covers
I'm leaning toward 3. They come with the stuff for a breather/pcv and they are "tall boys" so you could get roller rockers if you ever wanted too. Also I darn near bought those myself last month before deciding on a more o.e.m stamped steel piece that I could paint. Good baffles are really important. It's pretty impressive how much oil a pcv can suck up with poory designed baffles.

Re: Real Decision 2020--Valve Covers
I found some finned aluminum valve covers for a vortec and had them chromed. Now that I've seen those Chevrolet script units I'm bummed...

Re: Real Decision 2020--Valve Covers
I would go with #3 They would look really nice if you painted in between the fins the same color as your air cleaner.

I have a pic of one like that it's green in my build thread. I think it looks great.

Re: Real Decision 2020--Valve Covers
Mine came with the engine. I bought the breathers and oil fill caps to somewhat match.

I can't decide which ones I like or want...I am still trying to decide. I like all 3 of my choices... |

Re: Real Decision 2020--Valve Covers
It is still hard for me to believe that they sold these trucks with plaid valve covers. They are cool and retro and I love plaid but still.

Re: Real Decision 2020--Valve Covers
I think I have decided to go with option #1, but #3 is still in the running because of price. I had an old stamped steel cover and painted to to see what it would look like...I love the look. I just sat it over my black ugly covers to get the effect...I think it would look great...then paint the Chevrolet script black to set it off.

Are you going to get the PML covers?

Re: Real Decision 2020--Valve Covers
Yes, will probably be after the new year since they are not cheap. Best price I have found so far is $375 shipped for cast finish with PCV and breather holes machined. Then I will paint them like above. Compared to about $100 for the polished aluminum finned covers it is hard to pull the trigger, but the PML covers is the look I am after.
