Missing parts
Hello
My truck 1986 GMC Sierra C2500 7.4L caught fire 🔥 at the workshop (no one sure why) they say it started at the distributor 🤔, melted bunch of parts, anyhow they put the fire out replaced most of the damaged parts, However I see that some parts (relaies and wires) are missing from the fire wall on top of the distributor. Can someone tell me what they are for? Parts name? Do I need them? I took my truck from the garage Attached are pictures before and after Thanks

Re: Missing parts
Smaller item on the left within the circle is a relay. Not sure on the piece to the right. I'll do dome digging/searching for possibilities.

Re: Missing parts
For some, the fuel pump relay was there. Others had it on the drivers side fender near the hinge pivot. It's possible other relays were on the firewall in that position as well which I why I mentioned seeing if I could find any info to offer.

Re: Missing parts
Did they remove them and rewire or just lazy and not reattach. Is the harness laying down on top of the bell housing?

Re: Missing parts
One missing part is the main junction block. Normally a rather important electrical part. Your red oval passes over it in the before pic on the driver's side. The square/diamond shaped thing.
Not sure about 86 specific's but normally a hot from the battery - often ran from the starter solenoid, a voltage sense and main wire from the alt go there. Sometimes a wire runs from there to the heater blower relay. Also a wire from the fuse block for always hot stuff. Since you are starting over in that area, suggest a 90's era junction block as a replacement. I got one like this for $5~10 at the local pull-a-part a couple years back. Grab the wires as well as they have factory installed fusible links. It makes it easier to connect new accessories that need battery power. |

Re: Missing parts
That stud strip looks like an early GMT400 chassis part.
Next to the booster should be a 2 stud J block. This is the main power junction for the truck. Over the top of the transmission tunnel is a plastic wiring tray. The relays are fuel pump and TH400 kickdown. There's more than a little wiring in that area... Blower Hi power wire, Alternator, Circuit 2 main power from the starter BAT stud, ... More that I can't think of right off the top of my head. Hopefully you are being compensated for their incompetence.

Re: Missing parts
I'm finding it hard to believe that all that stuff is missing from the brake booster over and where it disappeared to. And giving it back to you like that.

Re: Missing parts
Does someone at that shop have a squarebody by any chance?

Re: Missing parts
I asked the foreman, he said you don’t need these wires, that’s why I’m asking you in the forum to help out on what missing, part name or number, where do they connect, so I can order it, then charge it to them
Unfortunately none of workshops here have any experience in these classics Thanks

The truck had the fuel pump replaced They managed to put it out, replaced the distributor and H lead wires, repainted the hood, fire wall ONLY, that why I’m asking what’s missing

I would go back & ask the foreman what exactly those wires did. Each one. As he explains, have him show you how they 'repaired' the wire (each one). Each will have to be either replaced or spliced. If he can't provide those answers, he cannot say you don't need them. He has to know what each wire did or he is BS'ing you. I know you're seeking some sort of numbered/verified list of what is needed. Since these trucks are different based on build options, any list may not be accurate nor fix possible issues from the initial problem (fire).

Re: Missing parts
If you 'didn't need' those wires the factory wouldn't have put them there

Re: Missing parts
Where are you in the world?
The guy is flat out lying to you so you'll go away. We call these guys schlocks, jackwagons, dirtbags, or just good old fashioned liars here in the states. I can think of worse names that I won't type in a family friendly forum. I would never ever take another vehicle to them and I would tell my friends and family members to do likewise. The distributor caught fire? Yeah sure... Not bloody likely. Not sure what caught fire or why but it's not likely the distributor. Without standing there and looking at it we can't really tell you all that's missing. The US GM wiring diagrams are available free. The Junction block with two studs is missing. The alternator, AC blower HI power wire to the AC fan relay, Cab power circuit feed to the bulk head plug, and several high power circuits that terminate on that J-block. The starter CRANK wire, HEI Ignition power, Tachometer signal wire, J-Stud power wire from the starter, Alternator sense wire, and AC run in the plastic wiring tray along the top of the transmission tunnel. The Mini-ISO relay and controller don't look factory at least in the US for a 1986 with the 454. Can't help you on that. In 86 with the V6 or 87-91 with TBI you'll have a GM fuel pump relay and TH400 kickdown relay (if it was equipped with that) in the location that ISO relay was installed.
