72 c10 duramax, converting to 3/4 ton
Good morning all!
I've been working on this 72 C10 for 5 years, and finally getting to drive some! i recently converted my front suspension over to 3/4 ton. Got a 3/4 ton drag link, put new 3/4 ton tie rods and such on it. Now, the tie rods are hitting. I pulled up LMCtruck, and see now that there are different tie rods by year. This would make me assume that my drag link, and tie rods must not be from the same years. Does anyone have any way that would help me identify what years any of these are from, or any insight from your own mistakes? thanks in advance! |

Re: 72 c10 duramax, converting to 3/4 ton
Forgive the confusion, I'm ashamed to say, at this point its been a couple of years since I put these front end parts in. I've been chasing all of the other gremlins, haha.
I remember getting the drag link from a guy at a swapmeet, i don't remember what year it is from, In my mind, all draglinks would fit all years. I feel pretty confident i got the tie rods from Autozone. which if that were the case, I would have ordered 72 Chevy c20 tie rods. I suppose, re reading my question, and now trying to get my thoughts more ordered. my first question would be: Is there an "upside down" or "backwards" that I accidentally put this drag link in? also: looking at LMC for tie rod ends they have 67-70, and 71-72. Could my problem be that my drag link and tie rod years aren't matched? thank you so much for your time, really. |

The tie-rods should go between the main x-member & the center-link w/the castle nuts facing toward the front bumper. They will only seat properly in the center-link in one direction as they're tapered.

Well, at least i'm on the right track.
would you (or anyone) suggest i just buy the "other year" tie rods? i suppose that would make them match? or, is there another solution? edit: i apparently missed the second part of your reply. I'll take everything apart and see if i might have done that. Else, i'll try and get some of the 67-70 tie rods and see if that might help. Thanks everyone! Nate |

It's possible the parts are interchangeable in certain combos but that takes research to understand/know.
