Sometimes you just want to brag...

about a business that exceeds your expectations. I dropped my seat off at a local auto upholstery shop that has been in business and in the same family since 1951. Dropped it off last Wednesday and got the call today that it was ready to pick up.

WoW, that beats my almost two year turn around by almost two years

that metallic thread cloth is a rare material - looks great, worthy of boasting

They've been in business since 1951, the guy who did my seat is the 3rd generation owner.

I got the cloth material from SMS Auto Fabric.

Yes, I ordered the cloth from SMS Auto Fabric and the shop supplied the vinyl... SMS prices are high.

Re: Sometimes you just want to brag...

well I just noticed your profile picture, looks just as familiar as your seat

and btw, I also got my fabric from sms, but doug ran me through the ringer for it after shipping his home made copies a half dozen times, sending us spoiled rolls of cloth unusable from uv damage, and him and his staff lying to me and my upholsterer multiple times

there's actually more to that whole story but I'm trying to forget it so I don't end up needing therapy

anyways, I did finally get it done and my local upholsterer did a fantastic job - my dad's truck I learned how to drive in close to 40 years ago is slowly coming around, itchy seat and all

I think this is my favorite version of the bench seat. I'm not endorsing SMS, because I've heard more horror stories than positive stories in dealings with them. But they're the only vendor who has the correct fabric so what do you do. I'm glad you stuck to it and got what you paid for. I got what I paid for on the first try... but I likely paid $50 more per yard than you did since they jacked up the price after buying out the other supplier. I have quotes from 10 years ago from SMS which were nearly half of what I paid.

If you really like to have an original looking seat, better expensive than not for sale.
The seat is looking very good! This is the correct pattern for 1964 isn't it?

Not 100% sure, but I believe the Deluxe seats were the same in 1964 and 1965. I know 1963's were different as were 1966's.

Re: Sometimes you just want to brag...

Your seat looks beautiful!!
It's good to have a local shop that does good work.
Word to the wise,,,, have been to SMS. Not a good experience!!!!
The Better Business Bureau on them tells the story.
I've found oemfabrics.com is the place to look for original material. Fast responce, good communication!
