66 c10 CPP collapsible steering shaft install questions
Starting to install this
3/4 inch DD intermediate shaft from CPP 1. How far does or should the center shaft slide? Total possible is 8.5 inches 2. On the u joint, one end (DD) has threaded studs with locking nuts. I am assuming the other end (slip on round) gets welded where i cut the existing shaft off? 3. I am also assuming the ujoint is what makes this collapsible? Also thinking on 1 of the 2 studs. The one that sticks out further i could remove it; then drill DD shaft and actually have it pinned On the intermediate shaft. The section in the middle is rubber. Assuming i would drill and pin in front of the rubber section that has a flat spot on the bar. 1 or 2 pins there?? Also thinking i could cut the DD shaft to length for adjustment; why i was asking how far the DD shaft slides forward Anything i should be aware of before cutting my original shaft?? I must be missing something, where is the portion that has the 8.5” of collapse ability? I only see a short portion at the end of the shaft that’s connected to the rag joint….
The locking studs on the DD end of the ujoint are to lock it in place, pinning is not necessary, however, put the lock studs in hard enough to mark the DD shaft, and at those marks, make a small pocket with a drill bit for the studs to press into. Surely they sent some assembly instructions, or maybe the little oriental guy forgot to put them in…. |

Shaft to the right slides into the left
Appears i need to cut the right shaft to length?? |

That U-Joint - Attaches to the column? If so it should match the end of the column and be double set screwed and jamb nutted also. You may have an incorrect u-joint?
The shaft should slide inside the larger shaft to allow it to collapse, the rubber (in theory) keeps it from rattling. No pin. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=387163

I was following lugnutz post
U joint is DD on one side with set screws I tapped the shaft that slides Other side of u joint slides over the existing steering column shaft where i cut it I will weld that together I think i got it |
