Hoods & Hood hinges

So I have a 58 Apache here in NZ and while rebuiling it I discovered my cab is a late 57 (58 wipers dont mount up, hood hinges are bigger bolts closer together and water holes different.

My old hood hinges are poo, they were 58-59 hinges where the firewall holes were slotted and the hood never sat right cause you couldn't align them properly.

Knowing this I just bought some 55-57 Eddie Motorsport Billet Hinges which I immediately fitted. OMG they look so good.

While mounting them I thought the face where the hood mounts looked funny, but I just wanted to get them mounted... well I was right.

Im guessing the 55-57 hood has a step in the hood where it mounts to the hinge where the 58-59 is flat. I also measured the hole spaces and the 55-57 is narrower and offset where the 58-59 is wider and straight.

------

How do I fix this?

Can i simply get a set of the 58-59 hood mount bits from EMS and swap em out or do I now need to get a 55-57 hood as well.

I currently have some $750USD ornaments

I was planning to do the same thing and not aware the older hood was different,

Re: Hoods & Hood hinges

i believe your gonna need to go all 58/9 and mount in the 58/9 location
the 57 hood is narrow at the front, the hinges are very different with the spring on hinge vs hooked to the inner fender
as far as the wipers, they should fit i don't believe any changes were made there

i added a couple pics of the 58/9 hinge, i'll leave it to someone else to post up a 55/7 hinge

Re: Hoods & Hood hinges

I have the 58-59 hinges but they won't work as the firewall is a 55- 57 so the bolt spacing is wrong , that's why someone previously slotted to current ones which I slotted further trying to get them to fit bitter.

I am also not going factory hinges either, going with some billet ones.

I thought front parts were interchangeable , but I guess that's as a whole, guards and.hood and grill etc etc

I found a 55-57 hood which is being delivered today. My hope is that I can unpick the mount section at the rear of the hood and put that in my current 58-59 hood if that makes sense.

I can 100% confirm the wiper mounting and setup is different between the two as I had to return the Newport 58-59 and get the earlier 55-57.

This discussion comes up from time to time. Here's a very good thread. trucktony posted some detailed information and pictures covering some of the differences.

Re: Hoods & Hood hinges

you'd probably be better off asking someone with a 58/9 cab to measure and template it for you, then use the 58 hinges

Re: Hoods & Hood hinges

If you decide to part with the hinges I may be interested if the shipping isn't outrageous.
Thanks,

Re: Hoods & Hood hinges

2nd in line for the hinges if you do indeed decide to sell. I was just about to buy a set for my 57.

Good Luck !

Re: Hoods & Hood hinges

Sorry guys but sending the hinges overseas again isnt an option.

Just made a quick video about this issue and my resolve to fix it.

I have since unpicked the lower inside of the white 55-57 hood and have still to do it to the 58 hood but it looks promising.

Video here

No problem, and looks like you've got a solid plan of action to correct the issue!
