Polish and sealer

I tried posting this in the paint and body section but nobody replied. So I am going to try posting it here. I was surprised to see how few posts were in that section. I am looking for advice on a good polish and sealer. I am not planning on waxing. I will be doing it by hand. I have heard good things about Meguiar’s but I don’t see any polish and sealer I’m there product line.

I use McGuiars stuff a lot. There is a phone number on their labels and sometimes I call it while in the store so they can help me find the best product for the job at hand.

Thanks. Yah I emailed them and they don’t have a polish and sealer. The product they recommended was meant to be put on right after paint. It didn’t seem like what I was looking for.

Meguiars does indeed have polish, I use it. Ultimate Polish. If you're not going to wax after, I suggest a ceramic coating like Armor Shield.

Okay thanks I will look into it. Just to clarify I was not mean to say that they told me that they didn’t have polish but rather that they didn’t have a polish and sealer in one type product.

Are you specifically looking not to wax or you just don't want want to complete a second step of waxing?

I use the Meguiar's Cleaner Wax. It is a 1 step product that can be applied by hand or machine. They call it a "cleaner" but what that really means is a mild polish. It will remove oxidation, minor scratches... and leave behind a protective coat of wax that will seal the surface of the paint and cause water to bead. Here are before and after pics of using this product on our 1975 Land Cruiser with factory paint. You can see in the before pic, the paint was flat, dull and extremely oxidized. In the after pic, there is enough gloss you can see the expansion joints of our garage floor in the reflection and the paint is slick.

I am mostly trying to do what my painter told me to do. He recommended a polish and sealer. He recommended Meguiar’s. He also said that he didn’t like wax. My paint doesn’t have a clear coat and it was painted a couple of years ago. My hole is to protect it from any ill effects of bird poop and oxidation. It is kept outside under a car cover.

You're free to do what you want, but polish/compound is what makes the paint flat/shine, and wax (or sealer, or ceramic) is what protects the finish. Get it flat (compound/polish), then get something on it. Wax/sealer/ceramic, it doesn't matter, all will work. Just choose a quality product. If you want to stick all Megiuar's, there are options in the Ultimate line for wax as well.

I appreciate all suggestions. It sounds like my painter is a little confused about what different products are meant for.

The best polish I ever found was liquid glass. It would bead water after one coat. You could feel the difference in the paint surface after applying it.

Short of having a professional detailer do a ceramic treatment, Griot's One-Step-Sealer is one of the best off-the-shelf products I've used.
