Stepside bed

Anyone got pics of a stepside bed on the frame from underneath?

I have 2 extra crossmembers I didn't use when I got my truck on the road, and I am trying to figure out where they go.

Mar-K has instructions on their website that indicate where the cross sills are installed.

Re: Stepside bed

I saw that and that is how I got most of my bed togather. As it was a pile of parts.

One thing I could not visualize was where the shorter of the cross beams laid.

Re: Stepside bed

Think the short one goes in the middle, it's a reinforcement sill

Re: Stepside bed

Not really it is the same pretty much as the other.

There is 6 cross beams, and right now I am using 4. Because the other 2 cause the bed to bow up in the center.

There is something I am missing, and every stepside I see is driving. I missed Pomona due to it was my weekend to work as I hoped to do some investigating. I make it there on Saturday afternoon after work , but no steps that I saw. Although I did score some sweet tiki dolls

My current guess is somehow my bed is about a 1-1 1/2 to low since the body crease does not line up. As it appears to do on pics I see on the internet.

I am wanting to widen the bed 2-3 inches, and do a welded bed floor structure. Then lay trex decking on top. But I want it to look stock so the body sits right.

Re: Stepside bed

If your beds to low that may be the issue, my neighbor has a stepside that I replaced the bed floor on a few yrs ago, i would go look ,but its locked up in storage and hes been in the hospital for the last few weeks

Re: Stepside bed

Best I can do my 68 prior to install . Believe the beds are the same from 67 up

Edit found another before bed assembly. Front near the cab was already on the bed

Thumbs up Re: Stepside bed

You have braces for both the bed, and frame. Where I only have the ones on the frame.

So I must be missing some stuff, and will just deal with it later.

My best bet would be to either buy another bed that has all the supports. Or do what I plan build my own floor structure, and header. Then weld the sides on.

Re: Stepside bed

The braces on the frame were for referance as to where they went . All 6 were then bolted onto the bed prior to install . I only have 6 but if your bed is to low I would think the taller 3 of the six are in the wrong place.

They were marked 1-6, and 1 was cut for the long shackles.

When I do my rear suspension. As I have to take the bed off I will investigate further.
