Side mounted gas Tanks

I have searched the forum and I have not found any post on side mounted gas tanks? SO wondering if anyone has managed to mount a saddle type tank on 64-66 C10?

I have looked at the 73 -87 tanks and they look like they might work but wondering if anyone has done it

I am planning on putting in a tank between the frame rails in the rear, but I also do not want to get rid of the gas filler in the side of the cab. I would like to keep it if possible. so wondered if anyone put in a side mounted tank?

I was thinking that maybe I could run the cab mounted filler to it through the floor and have an additional fuel tank and keep the original look.

Re: Side mounted gas Tanks

There sure are many threads on relocating the fuel tank. See FAQ "Fuel tanks" - http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=646002
However I have yet to see one on a saddle tank for our trucks. Hopefully someone else will add their experience.

Yes I have seen many for between the frame rails in the rear but finding one where they used a saddle tank I have not seen, thought I had seen in the past but when I looked this time I was not finding anything

Re: Side mounted gas Tanks

I thinking of maybe something like one of these tanks but assume that the tank would not sit up under the cab at all and that would be issue for connecting the filler neck, may give this a shot and see how it measures out

Re: Side mounted gas Tanks

I know they used to make saddle tanks for these trucks because when I was a young man my neighbor had a 65 long bed with a cab over camper and he had them. They were more squared welded tanks not stamped. They hung below the bottom of the bed just a bit in front of the rear wheel. I don't know if they are still made.

Re: Side mounted gas Tanks

My 65 has a second tank under the bed. I am planning on removing it as it has not had the fill hose on it for a long time and the tank is filled with who knows what.
There is an after market fuel door on the front drivers side of the bed. At this time I'm going to leave the door.
I'll try and post some pics if you would like to see.
Let me know.
