Steering column lower bearing

Lower bearing on my steering column is shot. Is this lower part that holds the bearing set 2 pieces or one? I ordered a lower bearing, thinking I just need to knock out warn out bearing race and install new bearing. But lower section race appears to be part of the lower section?

Re: Steering column lower bearing

I haven't done one myself, but it looks to be possible to take the two pieces apart.
Here's some good pictures of one taken apart and rebuilt: https://lugnutz65chevystepside.weebl...n-rebuild.html

Re: Steering column lower bearing

this is perfect, I'll need to source some ball bearings, since I lost a few. thanks. I thought the piece with the red arrow was removable. Hopefully I did not damage it.

Re: Steering column lower bearing

I think it is removable, which is why you can replace it with either a bronze bushing or another stock style bearing.
I haven't done one myself, but I'm sure there's someone out there who has

Re: Steering column lower bearing

This bearing had failed on my 66 (prior owner) and the broken, hardened race cut nearly through the column. I replaced this bearing with the bronze bushing...works great, and the bronze will never damage the column... Think I picked it up at Classic parts, can't recall exactly.
