Thanks for the help on the Hugger Orange post.

A lot of the older posts I read while searching showed a lot of Blazers for sale in the $5000 to $6000 range in the earlier to mid-2000's.

Now in 2022 those same Blazers are $20-25000 (and more).

Amazing to think in January of 2004 I bought my K5 for $650. Here's what a $650 K5 looked like in 2004.

You don’t have to go as far back as the early 2000’s to see the dramatic spike in prices. I picked up the 71 hugger orange Jimmy I shared pictures of in your other post for $11,500 in December 2016. 115,000 miles with enough documentation to be comfortable it’s at least close. Rebuilt original engine and trans at 85,000 miles (a PO reportedly damaged the engine somehow that required a rebuild). No fluid leaks. Another $3,500 in maintenance and upgrades (rear springs, sound deadener and carpet kit, shocks, steering stabilizer, tune-up, some trim bits and pieces, etc.). So $15,000 all-in for a well-running and reliable rig that I just increased the Hagerty agreed-value to $35,000. Pretty nuts. I wonder how long these values will hold?

i bought mine for $3,500 in 2012. It was complete and running with all the hard to find parts and it only had the usual rust on the rockers and B pillar.

Every old ride comes with a story. This is a 72 with a 68 front clip. My buddy called and said his buddy had a 72 for sale and wanted to know if I wanted to check it out. He said the price was awesome. He told me $5000 (it was 2018) so I was expecting a rolling pile of ****. When the guy's son opened the garage door I told my buddy I had just seen this Blazer on Craigslist for $10K.

He called and his buddy explained that was the price between them as he used his shop and lift regularly.

I told him I completely understood because I thought it was more than $10K in front of me. He told me if I had $5K when he got home from work it was a one day/one time offer. I called my wife and told her to go to the bank, rob it if she had to, but have $5K when I got there.

This truck has new rockers and boxes, great metal patch work in the floors, a bit of patch work in the bed. The only real metal work left was grinding some crappy welds on the kick panels. He made it a point to say that was there before he started but had not got that far. LOL

Within a week of owning it I was offered $14K and then $16K. I just do not think I can replace it for that, not even close.

The chassis is stripped and painted. The sheet metal work is all done. The transmission and transfer case stripped, taken apart, painted and put back together. New brakes and bearings on both axles. The engine may be its weakest link as it is a 350 crate motor from Advance Auto parts. He swapped out the cam and lifters, added a RPM intake and a 650 Holley.

It drives good and rides good. It took me three years or so to stop driving it long enough to get it ready to paint. It is that much fun.

Babbling, my apologies, but the paint research flashed me back to when buying a Blazer project felt much more normal.

If it were not for the deal I stumbled upon I would be Blazer-less based on the market.

I love hearing there are still deals out there- and trust me, there are still trucks out there- I have a few spotted but I never go inquire without having the cash on me.
4 years ago in the Southwest market $5k would get you a project, $15k would get you a decent driver- I searched for a year and a half- I wanted original paint, as rust free as possible- My wife finally found one for me- at the time- we overpaid and I knew it- I got razzed by a few folks for spending that much. but when you look at what it would cost for a paint job alone, justified the price- I have been offered big dollars to sell- easily doubling my money but like you said-how could you replace it in this market?

My wife bought me a 72 factory 2wd highlander in 2015 for my 50th birthday and had it shipped from Florida for about 17k. I have been offered 6 figures for if.

Not sure if you took the offer, but if it was me I would be jumping up and down with joy and already halfway through building my next project with that cash.
Another 18 months and these prices will drop like a stone. Mark my word.

I found this one a few weeks ago in a barn behind the shop that was changing the trans fluid in my other 72 K5.

It followed me home after a couple weeks of negotiating.

Thanks, the pretty one has a 383 stroker and TCI T350, Redhead steering box, 1" Energy Suspension lift, C30 Brake booster, full Rhino line and pretty much new everything.

The project K5, also a CST, will get an LS, the above mods, plus a softopper, as it will be in convertible mode when weather permits. I'm not sure if I'll take it off the frame, but I may give that a shot.

I’m not no sure about that. Broncos have been going strong for a loooong time. Long before blazers got hot. Even now scouts are being drug up the convertible suv price hikes. We shall see though.

A friend of mine has a Scout and they too are climbing as of late. Maybe like everything, but sometimes it is sort of quick and obvious.

And one of the things I try to add (and forgot) is that I do not begrudge a person for hanging a high price and taking advantage of the current market.

These Blazers are only worth what someone is willing to pay.

A friend's daughter bought a house several years ago for just shy of $150K. The house needed some more improvements and they closed on it last week for $312. The housing market is way stupid right now.

It will be interesting to see how long the Blazer market "peaks".

My first one was actually a 72' Jimmy. I was 18 in 1996. Was in decent shape. My dad bought it for me for $5,200. I rolled it and damaged the entire right side, hood and window frame in the summer of 1997. Sold it to a body shop for $750 and sold my Dunlop Mud Rovers for $500 to a friend.

Finally convinced my wife to let me buy one in 2015. Actually, I pretended I bought one to see her reaction. When she wasn't that mad I had the green light. Bought one on eBay for what may have been a little over market at the time for $18,000 and change.

It runs great, all original (front seats need to be recovered) and has some great Hickey stuff. Dual aux tanks (not in use), tire swing, hitch, roof rack, and brush guard (which I'm not sure is 100% Hickey). Curious what I could fetch for it but I'm not selling.
